After the Breakup, the Cold CEO Haunts Me Day and Night
Chapter 1
My on–again, off–again boyfriend, Samuel
“Sam” Bradford, posted something on Insta.
“100 likes and we’re DONE!”
Quickly, ninety–nine people had liked it.
I knew Sam was waiting for me to crawl back,
to apologize like I had the eight times before.
But this time, I was just tired.
I silently liked it, completing Sam’s breakup
wish.
From that day on, I unfollowed Sam and
avoided him at all costs.
<
Ten days later, one of Sam’s buddies texted
- me.
“Dude, Sam’s waiting for you to eat humble
pie. It’s his birthday tomorrow. Buy him a gift,
go celebrate, and you guys will be back.
together!”
I just texted back: “No can do.”
I really couldn’t.
My flight to enroll at UCLA was taking off
tomorrow.
Sam Bradford, you got your wish. We’re never
seeing each other again.
1
I blew up at Sam when I found out he’d let a
scholarship student his family was sponsoring,
Maxine “Max” Porter, change my college
5:43
application.
Sam didn’t think it was a big deal.

He actually thought I was overreacting.
“It was just a joke, Sunnie. It’s not like it can’t
be changed back. Max was in a bad mood that day, and I just wanted to cheer her up.”
“Now that she isn’t upset anymore, you can just change it back.”
My voice was shaking.
I couldn’t believe how flippant Sam was being.
“She can just change someone else’s college
application because she’s in a bad mood? Do
you even realize that’s a felony? I have every
right to sue her!”
“I told you, I told her to do it. It’s on me! Sue.
<
me then!”
“Seriously, it’s not the end of the world. You found out and changed it back, right? Grow up, Sunnie. If you keep acting like this, I’m gonna have to reconsider us.”
Sam knew I was head over heels for him.
He always threatened to break up with me when we fought.
Come to think of it, things were pretty smooth between Sam and me before Max showed up.
Ever since she did, we’d been fighting about her nonstop.
This was the ninth fight Sam and I had over Max.
After the first eight fights, Sam chose to
threaten me with a breakup.
<
And every single time, I caved and gave in.
It was happening again.
Sam was sure I’d eat crow because I was so in
love with him.
After he said that threat, he waited for me to
give him an out, to apologize and beg for him
back.
But I didn’t do it.
Just now, watching Sam scold me impatiently
while he smirked down at his phone, texting
Max back, I just felt…done..
I had no desire to apologize.
I just sat there, stony–faced and silent.
Sam waited a minute, and when I didn’t cave,
he tsked, grabbed his phone, stood up, and left.
<
I just sat there in my chair, staring blankly at my
laptop screen.
I don’t know how long I was sitting there, but
my phone buzzed, a couple of voice messages.
I opened them, and it was Max’s saccharine
voice: “Sunnie, are you mad about the joke I
played? Should I call her and have her come
over so I can apologize in person?”
Sam’s voice, annoyed: “Nah! If she wants to be
mad, whatever. I’m not her dad. I’m not gonna
baby her!”
“Oh, Sammy, don’t talk like that. I’m telling you,
you gotta sweet–talk girls. You’ll push Sunnie
further away if you keep acting like that.
“I don’t have time to baby her. Whatever! She
thinks she’s all that. If my grandpa weren’t
breathing down my neck, I wouldn’t bother with
Sunnie. She’s clingy and whiny. I’m sick of it!”
<
“True, Sunnie’s a total crybaby. I’ve never seen a girl this dramatic.” That was Sam’s buddy, Mitch Howe.
