After sunset, no longer burning for
you
Chapter 1
The company went on a team–building trip to
Colmar.
I found out my boyfriend was planning to
propose during the sunset.
But that evening, he knelt before someone
else with a ring in his hand.
“Skyler, I want to be a dad to this baby. Will
you marry me?”
1
Skyler, the woman Foster had been pining
over for ten years.
I watched the two of them embrace in the
sunset’s afterglow.
I turned and booked a trip for three days
later, then went home to start dating.
Until a year later, when we met again back home, Foster grabbed me, eyes bloodshot.
11
‘Juniper, you’re finally back. Don’t leave me
again…”
<
“Your trip will depart from Colmar in three
days.”
“Ms. Juniper, have a pleasant journey.
Goodbye.”
I had just confirmed my flight details with the
staff.
I heard my assistant’s voice from behind.
“Juniper, we need to head back.”
Foster was already carefully helping Skyler
away.
The news of his proposal to the ex–girlfriend
<
of a DC bigshot had gone viral.
Everyone said he had finally won the heart of
his dream girl after ten years.
Little did they know, I was his girlfriend of six
years.
That afternoon, when I found a custom–made
wedding ring in Foster’s pocket.
I was thrilled, thinking he remembered I
wanted a sunset proposal.
Now, I was slapped in the face.
His love and the ring belonged to someone
く
As the car pulled away from the town, Foster
called.
He barked into the phone.
“I want chestnut and chicken soup in half an
hour.”
He hung up before I could refuse.
I was stunned for a moment.
I realized that chestnut and chicken soup is
perfect for pregnant women.
I opened WeChat and looked through our
chat history.
<
I found that Foster had been talking about
drinking all kinds of tonic soups for the past
three months.
It slowly dawned on me.
Had he already decided to be a stepdad back
then?
Half an hour later, I arrived at his estate with
the chicken soup.
His buddies from the team–building trip were
sitting in the living room.
The lively atmosphere instantly died down
when they saw me.
<
They always treated me, his secretary, like
Foster’s lapdog.
Now, they sized me up with knowing smiles,
waiting for my humiliation.
Foster had Skyler half–embraced in his arms
in the main seat.
He nonchalantly took the chicken soup.
“You’re just in time.”
He gestured towards a few glasses of hard
liquor on the table.
“Skyler can’t drink it. You’re good with
alcohol. Drink it for her.”
<
Foster didn’t even look at me, as if it were
nothing.
He had forgotten that I was allergic to
alcohol, only remembering that Skyler
couldn’t drink.
It was as if I was just a tool to take the
blame.
Suddenly, I wanted an explanation for the last
six years.
I couldn’t help but speak.
“Foster, shouldn’t you explain the proposal
today?”
<
The expressions on everyone’s faces were
subtle.
Anyone could see Foster’s favoritism towards
Skyler.
Sure enough, Foster focused on feeding her
chicken soup, and said.
“Juniper, we’ll talk about it later. Don’t ruin
the mood.”
At that moment, my last hope for him
disappeared.
I’d been his secretary for six years, helping
him deal with countless scandals.
く
But this time, I suddenly felt exhausted.
I swallowed the bitterness in my heart, picked
up a glass, and drank it down.
“Congratulations to Mr. Foster and Ms.
Skyler. May you live happily ever after and
have children soon.”
They thought I would make a scene, but they
didn’t expect me to be so calm.
After all, in the past.
As long as I confronted Skyler, I would
explode.
<
Foster seemed used to it too, watching me
hysterically with a cold eye.
Afterward, he would casually send a gift, and
I would forgive him like a fool.
I couldn’t remember how many times I’d
argued with him over Skyler since she
returned home.
After each cold war, I would sort out my feelings alone.
Then, I would lower my voice and apologize.
I was destined to lose in this relationship.
く
As I walked out of the estate, Skyler’s
delicate voice rang out behind me.
“Foster, Juniper is mad. You should go
comfort her.”
Foster laughed dismissively, gently massaging
her lower abdomen.
“It’s okay. She’s obedient to me. I’ll sweet-
talk her later.”
