Chapter 10%
Ken was furious. He never imagined I would not return to the office for a whole day, without any request for leave, messages,or even a single call.!!
What infuriated him even more was that no one in the office had any clue where I went and no one even tried to find out for him.
He called the housekeeper, his voice already laced with restrained anger Did Emilly come home?”
The housekeeper hesitated for a second before replying, “No.. Miss White came back briefly.picked up a few things and left again. She didn’t say where she was going.”
Picked up a few things?
Ken froze. A wave of unease rose in his chest
Meanwhile, the office was a mess. Hazel was taking one business call after another She didn’t understand a single thing being discussed and the processes were a blur to her.
She tried to understand everything from the few scraps of notes I’d left behind but no matter how she explained things, the person on the other end grew even more frustrated
“Where is your general assistant? the other side snapped coldly
Uh…I’m the new general assistant…“Hazel answered.
“Then do us a favor and stop wasting our time with your clueless rambling. If you can’t do the job, just quitra
Click The call ended.B
Hazel slammed her pen in anger, but was aggravated as hell. She genuinely had no idea how to handle any of this What made things even worse was that she knew that the handover documents I had prepared had been ruined when she spilled a cup of coffee on them,nd there was no backup.
She could only whine with a soft voice and act like a child to Ken. “Ken….I really don’t know how to do this… Can you look at those materials with me?I’m afraid of making mistakes…”
Ken felt a pounding headache coming on.Only now was he beginning to truly realize how much pressure I had been taking off his shoulders all this time
I had handled everything in the company. From handling hundreds of employees dozens of processes.countless reports tracking which supply chain was lagging to which regional manager was playing games…I had done all in order not to distract me
It had only been a few hours nowbut he had already felt it was ten times more exhausting than the day before!
He was just getting annoyed when another message from the HR department came one after the other®
“President Dixon, here are the latest resignation requests. A few of them are long–time employees and the HR personnel have also submitted their notice.”
“What?” he exclaimed
“They said…they were more comfortable working with Assistant White, said the HR personnel subtly, but his attitude was cold “Since she had left they don’t want to stay either“:
Ken’s expression darkened instantly. He snatched up his phone and dialed my number only to be greeted by a cold automated message “The number you have dialed has blocked this call”
“Emily!“he roared He nearly threw the phone across the room.He finally understood that I really had quit &
He knew how much I cared about the company in the past. Even when we had fights over the past seven years, never once let it affect work.K
Howevecthis time had let it all fall apart.
His frustration grew unbearable. He couldn’t focus on anything and had to force himself to sit down. It took him two full hours just to work through one contract approval I left behind, only to realize he didn’t understand any of the attached clauses. In the end,he had to make the legal team work overtime just to explain it to him.
When the end of the day finally came Hazel walked overall smiles “Ken, let’s go grab something to eat tonight, okay?“)
She was eager to relax after working so hard
Ken frowned and shot her an annoyed look. “I still have work to do.
“Oh.come on. There’s so much work to do and you can finish it tomorrow. Besides,Ken,when are you going to meet my dad?“Hazel asked as she tugged gently at his sleeve unhappily.
