Chapter 4
I ran to Austin’s side and felt relieved when I saw his smiling
eyes.
“Did it work out?” I asked.
“It did!” he replied excitedly.
Opening the envelope, inside was a transfer letter to Florida.
The result was somewhat different from what I had imagined, and I couldn’t help feeling a twinge of disappointment. I looked up and asked, “Are you still leaving?”
Austin patted my head, trying to sound casual, “This is already a good outcome. Being in the military means you can’t avoid all hardships.”
I knew he was right, but I couldn’t help worrying.
He said, “Why are you so concerned about where I’m stationed? Don’t worry, you don’t have to follow me. Island life is tough,
you can stay here, find a job or go to college, whatever you want.”
but
His tone held no reproach; instead, it was filled with sincerity, leaving me momentarily at a loss.
I said, “What are you talking about? I’m not afraid of hardship,

I’m just afraid you might…”
“Afraid I might what?” he asked.

Austin suddenly tilted his head, bringing his face very close to mine, his breath almost brushing against my face.
In that moment, my mind went completely blank.
“I’m afraid you might die,” I said.
Austin froze, then asked softly after a moment, “Sienna, do you believe in reincarnation?”
I looked straight into his eyes, gradually getting lost in them.
Indeed, my suspicion was correct–Austin had also been reborn.
He said, “In my past life, I didn’t marry you, but Alayna. Your parents said she saved me, but I never liked her. So when I received my transfer orders, I voluntarily requested to go to Adak, the harshest post, just to escape her. Sure enough, she couldn’t stand Adak’s desolation and left after just a few days.
“Later, during military downsizing, she used my father’s name to scam many fellow soldiers, claiming she could help them stay in service. But she had no such ability–even my father couldn’t keep that many people. When everything was exposed, before the case was fully investigated, my father was wrongfully killed in prison.

“I hated her! But thinking that she had saved me and my mother, I couldn’t bring myself to be too harsh. I could only divorce her and send her back home.”
As he spoke, Austin’s shoulders began to tremble slightly.
I hugged him tightly, listening as he continued whispering in my
ear.
He said, “But I never imagined that the person who saved us wasn’t her at all–it was you.”
I remember after the divorce, Alayna complained about getting too little money and started badmouthing the Webber family as soon as she returned to the village.
Eventually, she accidentally let slip about the substitution.
Even before stabbing me, she cursed, “If I hadn’t married Austin in your place, my life wouldn’t have been so miserable.”
So this had reached Austin’s ears long ago.
I gently patted his back, letting him bury his head in the crook of my neck.
“It’s okay, it’s all in the past,” I comforted him. “The good thing is, this time, we didn’t miss each other.”

That made him laugh, and he touched the tip of my nose. “I didn’t expect you to be so optimistic!”
Just as I was about to hug him tightly again, I spotted a detestable face not far away.
Her features were twisted into a knot, with several strands of hair escaping from her braid, and the moment she opened her mouth, it was to complain.
