After spending five Christmases abroad, my abilities continued to improve.
Besides French, I taught myself German, Japanese, Italian, and several other languages.
Mark was right–I truly had a natural talent for languages.
Of course, I never forgot my dream of giving back to my homeland.
So after achieving my educational goals, I chose to return home and become a diplomat.
With my rich experience and outstanding performance in international affairs and diplomatic settings, I became the first female director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
My career flourished, and I was able to repay Nicole who had helped me. She opened a clothing store and built a successful business by the time she was sixty.
After I left, Nicole gave my letters to Leon’s supervisor.
They were actually love letters that Ariel had written to Leon.
The two of them had been secretly involved behind my back, though I hadn’t noticed in my previous life.

These letters infuriated Leon’s supervisor, who fired Leon and sent both him and Ariel back to their hometown.
Not only that, but he also took two thousand dollars from Leon’s savings and sent it to me, though I donated all of it to charity. I found Leon’s money disgusting.
Later, Ariel was sent to an even more impoverished rural area. I wonder if she resents Leon, “the man who always claimed to have her best interests at heart.”
Zayn didn’t leave with Leon. Perhaps Leon still had a shred of fatherly love, as he publicly announced the termination of their father–son relationship in the newspaper.
Zayn was adopted by a relative who had no son, but I heard that after the family had their own son, Zayn’s life became difficult.
When I learned about all this, I didn’t feel triumphant–it was like watching the story of strangers.
Now, with my country in my heart, I stand before the world representing my homeland.
All the grudges from my previous life seem so distant now, almost forgotten.
“Ms. Garner, there’s a meeting at three this afternoon,” my assistant reminded me.

I nodded, took a sip of coffee, and looked at the documents in front of me. “I know.”
Looking out the window, the weather was clear, with sunlight streaming in, making everything seem full of life.
The End.
