Chapter 4
I picked up the glass of water, which looked normal.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Leon and Ariel tense up, looking extremely nervous.
I slightly raised my hand, about to drink the water, then suddenly put the glass down.

Walking over to Leon, I placed the water glass in front of his spaghetti. “Leon, my son poured this water for me, but I’m not thirsty. You drink it.”
Leon nervously tried to decline. “I’m not thirsty either.”
I thoughtfully took out my handkerchief and wiped the sweat from his forehead. “You’re not thirsty? Then why are you sweating so much?”
Leon lowered his eyes, not knowing what to say.
I smiled sweetly at him, then looked at Ariel and said, “Then let’s give it to Ariel. She looks thirsty too.”
Leon quickly stood up, knocking over the water glass. It shattered, reflecting light across the floor.
Leon glared at me angrily and shouted, “If you won’t drink it, why offer it to someone else?”

I clapped my hands, exposing their scheme. “I’m not drinking it because my dear husband put something in my spaghetti, didn’t he?”
Leon’s eyes flashed with panic, then he turned away, lifting his chin. “I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
Ariel bit her lip, forcing a smile. “Danna, wasn’t this water poured by Zayn? I don’t know what misunderstanding you have, but you shouldn’t suspect Leon.”
I laughed coldly. “If I don’t suspect him, should I wait until I’m poisoned into being mute?”
Leon froze, then slammed his hands on the table. “You knew all along? So you were just playing me?”
I stepped closer, meeting his angry eyes. “You tried to harm me, and you’re upset that I played you? Leon, let me tell you, I will not give up my job to her! I earned that position through my abilities. Why should I give it to her?”
Ariel’s eyes instantly turned red. “Danna, I…”
I turned around, pointing at Ariel. “If I were harmed, you would be an accomplice. Wouldn’t you feel guilty?”

to her, Leon increasingly looked down on me.

Even Zayn grew to admire Ariel more. Later, whenever there were school events, he would only let Leon and Ariel attend, claiming I would embarrass him. People probably thought they were the married couple.
Eventually, Zayn went into business and became increasingly successful, while I became nothing more than an invisible servant in my own home.
Thinking about all I suffered in my previous life, I said, “Leon, during our twelve Christmas marriages, most of your salary was managed by you and your mother, giving me just enough for basic expenses.”
“I have about a hundred dollars now, which I’m taking with me.”
“If we divorce, you should rightfully give me half of your money -let’s say two thousand dollars. Write me an IOU.”
Leon looked at me furiously. “You really want to divorce me? And you want my money too? My money will only go to Ariel and Zayn. I’ve supported you for so many Christmases, and now you want to take money from me?”
I looked at him and shrugged indifferently. “Whatever. I’ll get it back anyway.”
As I turned to leave, Leon said, “Danna, you’re forcing my
hand.”
