Everyone was excited, and Harper blushed.
“Don’t say that. Jace probably just wanted to
say hi since we’re all here.”
“We all heard him. He said, ‘Miss Carter.“”
“Don’t be shy. If I had a rich guy chasing me,
I’d want the world to know!”
The atmosphere was lively again. They asked
the waiter to add a few dishes, showering
Harper with compliments.
L
Harper wobbled over to me, looking down at
- me. “We forgive you. You can pay the bill!”
I didn’t move.
Harper sat next to me. “I told you not to dress like that. Everyone will look down on you.”
“They weren’t even going to let you pay. I begged them to let you eat with them again!”
“Alright, everyone’s tired. Go pay!”
I rolled my eyes. “Girl! Are you drunk? Eating your fill and telling someone else to pay?”
Harper looked at me in disbelief. “Willow, you invited everyone! Are you going to back out?”
Harper’s dramatic yell got the attention of
other students. They gathered around to
criticize me.
“If it weren’t for Harper, we wouldn’t be here.”
“Yeah, who’d want to eat with you without
Harper?”
I said coldly, “Well, I don’t want to eat with
broke people. So who invited you?”
They looked at each other. “Ha… Harper!”
“There you go. Whoever invited you pays!”
They panicked. “But Harper said you were
treating us!”
“I don’t even have your numbers Why would I
L
invite you? Are we hometown friends? Are we
friends?”
They looked at each other, then at Harper.
Harper looked at me. “Didn’t… didn’t you say
you wanted to treat them because they were
poor?”
“You were the one who said that. They even
praised you for being kind!”
“…”
“You invited them, you ordered the food, you
ate it, you drank the wine, and now you want
me to pay? You think I’m some chump!”
“You! Fine, it’s just a meal. I’ll pay! I’m not as
stingy as you! Looking down on people!”
She called the waiter. “Check, please!”
“Hello, Miss. That will be $38,888.”
“What?! That’s insane!” Harper was stunned.
After confirming the order, Harper confronted
her friends.
“Who told you to order lobster and bird’s nest
soup? And the wine was $1888 a glass?!”
Harper couldn’t help but blame them.
They exchanged glances. No one spoke.
Realizing her mistake, Harper changed her
tone.
“I don’t have that much money with me. Let’s
split it!”
Hearing this, they were unhappy. You were the one who invited us out. You insisted on taking us to a fancy hotel. Now you want us to pay?
While they were arguing, Jace walked in.
“So sorry, I was busy. My apologies!” He looked at Harper.
Harper had tears in her eyes, looking like a fragile flower.
Jace looked lost. “Is… is something wrong?”
Everyone told Jace about my evil deeds.
Jace looked at me, smiling.
Then, he said gently to Harper, “It’s okay. I’ll
pay for it, as my apology. Miss… Miss Carter,
don’t cry.”
I looked at Jace, what a loser! You can waive
40,000 dollars just like that, no wonder the
hotel has lost so much money these last few
years!
Hearing this, everyone sighed in relief.
“Thank you, Mr. Jones, but we don’t need
your charity.”
Harper turned to scold her friends.
“Can’t you afford a meal? Do you need
someone else to pay? Spineless!”
+ Jess pay! I’ll lead the way and
“We can’t let Jace pay! I’ll lead the way and pay $5,000!”
Harper forced everyone to pay more than
$5,000 for the meal.
As they walked out of the hotel, someone
started to cry. “That’s two months of living
expenses!”
“I’m worse off. I had to borrow $2,000 from a
friend!”
“She’s pretending! She should have paid, but
we paid, and now we’re the greedy ones!”
“Didn’t you see? Jace’s eyes changed after
she said that. He was glowing!”
