As Fiona and Dashiell were about to leave, I broke free from my binds and swam frantically to the shore.
Seeing me come ashore, Dashiell was stunned.
“Fiona, wasn’t he supposed to be out of it? How is he still able to swim?”
Fiona froze when she saw the dark, intense look in my eyes. That familiar yet long–lost gaze made her heart skip a beat.
“Lachlan, you…”
Soaked to the bone, I walked toward Fiona with a grim look. Staring into her shocked eyes, I spoke slowly and clearly, “Fiona, I never realized you could be so heartless! Ten years of love, and it all crumbles so easily! I was devoted to you, yet you wanted me dead!”
Fiona’s face turned pale.
“Lachlan, you… you’re… okay?”
“Yes, I’m okay.” I replied with a sarcastic edge, “Fiona, I’m not a fool. Aren’t you disappointed I didn’t die?”
“No… that’s not it…” Fiona stammered, scrambling to explain, “Lachlan, I didn’t really want you dead, I just… I was out of my mind!”
“Stop making excuses!”
I glared at her, my eyes cold and piercing, “Fiona, do you still take me for a fool? Do you really think I don’t understand anything? I’ve seen everything you’ve done! I’ve seen your true colors! From now on, we’re done, no more ties between us!”
With that, I turned and walked away.
Fiona immediately ran after me.
Her eyes were red as she grabbed my wrist and desperately asked, “Lachlan, when did you get better? Was it last time? When Dashiell forced you to eat that plate of meat? I felt something was off then! Why didn’t you tell me you recovered? Why did you hide it from me? Do you know how many tears I’ve shed for you over the years? I’ve been suffering too…”
I shook off her hand in anger, nearly gritting my teeth, “Fiona, stop pretending to care! I won’t believe a word you say. It’s over between us!”
I left with determination.
Fiona, thrown off by my force, stumbled and fell to the ground.
Dashiell quickly ran over to help her.
As she got up, a sharp pain suddenly pierced her chest, like needles, lasting for a while.
Eventually, the pain slowly subsided.
Dashiell furrowed his brows, full of concern, “Fiona, what’s wrong?”
Fiona pushed Dashiell’s hand away.
After hesitating for a long time, she sighed, “Dashiell, let’s break up.”
“What did you say?”
Dashiell couldn’t believe it, quickly asking. “Fiona, you had agreed to marry me, why are you suddenly breaking up…
“Dashiell Fiona interrupted him sternly. “Didn’t you see? Lachlan has returned to normal, he’s not out of it anymore, he’s a normal person again! Lachlan is my husband, what we had was a mistake, and now that he’s back to normal, it’s time for us to end.”

“Why? What about the love we shared? What about all the times you said you loved me?”
“Fine, call me fickle if you want! Dashiell, Lachlan is the one I love most, I’ve waited three years for him to recover. There’s no way I can get entangled with you now.”
With that, she ignored Dashiell’s pleas and walked away decisively.
