Chapter 20 She’s Married?!
“She’s alive?” I repeated, barely believing the words coming out of the investigator’s mouth.
“Yes,” he replied, placing the folder on my desk. “But there are no photos. But we confirmed her identity through marriage records and location tracking. Jasmine… She’s in New York City”
I grabbed the folder and flipped it open, my hands trembling. No photos, just paper. A marriage certificate.
“Married?” I muttered, reading the name.
Jasmine Darrin now Jasmine Larkin.
Mamed to Silas Larkin.
My stomach dropped.
“She marned. Silas Larkin?” I said aloud, barely able to process it.
Bianca’s glass slipped from her hand and shattered on the floor
I turned sharply to her. Her face had gone pale, lips parted slightly. She wasn’t even blinking.
“You know him?” I asked.
She blinked, then looked away too fast. “No. I’ve just heard the name. He’s very wealthy.”
I narrowed my eyes. That’s it?”
“Yes,” she said quickly. “He’s the billionaire who owns Larkin Enterprises, right? Pharmaceuticals, tech, finance… all that“?
Her voice shook slightly, and I didn’t miss the flicker of something behind her eyes–jealousy… or fear??
“You’re acting weird,” I said, studying her
“I’m not,” she snapped too fast, too defensive.
I dropped it. For now!
Instead, I sat down hard, the weight of everything crashing down at once. Jasmine. Married. To him.!
Silas Larkin was no ordinary man. He was powerful. Untouchable. A king in a suit. Jasmine hadn’t just moved on
I looked at the investigator again. “She really married him?”
“Three weeks ago. Civil ceremony. No press. Very private. But legal.“W
“How the hell did she even meet him?” i muttered under my breath.
Bianca finally found her voice. “It doesn’t matter how. She knew what she was doing”
I turned to her, sharp. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
She shrugged. “Maybe she wanted someone better. Someone who wouldn’t humiliate her like you did.“}
“Don’t act righteous now, Bianca,” I hissed. “You were part of that mess.”
She said nothing. Just folded her arms and looked away.”
I slumped into my chair. “Jasmine married. To Silas Larkin. Just like that
“Guess you were easier to get over than you thought,” she muttered.
I ignored her!
The silence stretched long between us.
“She didn’t even wait, I whispered. “Not a word, not a call. She just erased me.”
she’d upgraded.
Bianca walked slowly to the couch and sat down. “That’s what people do when they’re done. They move on. And clearly, she moved up.” “You sound jealous,” I muttered.}
She didn’t deny it. “He’s a billionaire, Henry. You think I wouldn’t be jealous? She was heartbroken a few months ago, and now she’s living in a penthouse probably, wearing diamonds and silk, being kissed by the most powerful man in New York. Who wouldn’t be jealous?” That hit like a punch to the gut
I rubbed my face with my hands. “I still can’t believe it.”
“No photos?” she asked the investigator.
He shook his head. “None. She’s been very private. Changed her number, her email. No social media. We only found her through marriage records and tracking her previous allas.”
“What now?” I asked quietly
The investigator shrugged. “That depends. She’s legally married now. Reaching out would be complicated.“%
“She hasn’t filed the divorce officially yet,” I murmured, glancing at the unsigned papers still sitting on my desk. “Maybe she wanted me to sign them before she tied the knot.“%
“Looks like she didn’t need your permission after all,” Bianca said flatly.
I shot her a glare, and she went quiet
But she was right
Jasmine had taken back her life. And she hadn’t looked back once.
12:46 PM
I leaned back in my chair, feeling like the air had been sucked from the room X
“Silas Larkin,” I muttered again. “Why him?“;
Bianca’s silence stretched again. Suspicious. Way too suspicious.
“You’re sure you don’t know him?” I pressed.
“I told you already, Henry,” she snapped. “Why would I lie?”
“Because your face turned white when I said his name,” I said slowly “You dropped your glass. You looked like you’d seen a ghost.“}
She hesitated
Then forced a smirk. Tm just shocked. Jasmine never struck me as the type to marryi
Calculated?
my
someone so… calculated. That’s all.”
I didn’t buy it, but I was too tired to argue
“Do you want me to reach out to her?” the investigator asked.X
Flooked at him. “No.“!
“Are you sure?”
I nodded slowly. “Yes, I’ll do it myself.”
He nodded once, packed up his papers, and left)
As soon as the door shut, Bianca stood. “So what now? Are you going to mope around while she sleeps beside a billionaire?” “Dealousy doesn’t look good on you,” I muttered.
“Neither does heartbreak on you” she shot back. “But you’re wearing it like a tux“X
1 said drop it, Blanca”
“Fine,” she snapped, storming out of the study.}
