Chapter 50 Shadows of Loyalty
“He bragged about how great Eddy treats Lillian, daring Serena to see for herself,” Adrian said.

Adrian and Serena are Vivienne’s close friends. They know each other well. Knowing Serena for some time, Adrian more or less understands her personality.
Adrian said, “I got worried so I went to checked the hospital, turns out Lillian tried to kill herself last night.”
Vivienne’s eyes narrowed. “What’s that got to do with Serena?”
“I heard Serena went to see her yesterday and chewed her out,” Adrian said.
“I’ll look into it,” Vivienne said.
“If it’s tied to Serena, Edmund might not let it slide,” he warned.
Vivienne frowned. “Serena’s not reckless, I doubt she’d hassle Lillian for no reason. And… if Lillian’s so fragile that a few words push her over, she wouldn’t tangle with a married man.”
“Maybe I’m off,” Adrian said. “Could be Serena’s busy and didn’t tell me. She’s your friend, Edmund might hold back.”
Vivienne stayed quiet. Edmund wouldn’t spare Serena just for being her friend, he’d probably suspect her involvement.
She dialed his number, long unused. It rang, then connected. Before she could speak, a woman’s icy voice answered.
“Mr. Harrington just fell asleep,” said Kate, his secretary, devoid of warmth. “Tell me what you want, I’ll pass it on.”
“I need Edmund to answer this call,” Vivienne said flatly.
“Sorry, I can’t wake him. He was with Lillian all night and just dozed off. If it’s urgent, tell me,” Kate replied. Vivienne thought to herself, I need a secretary’s permission to talk to my own husband? This is absurd.
Vivienne hung up without saying anymore.
In the hospital, Lillian awoke, tears pooling as she saw Edmund. “You shouldn’t have saved me… Ms. Everest’s friend was right, I’m a burden, doomed anyway.”
“I’ve got Serena under control,” he said, brow creasing. “When you’re better, she’ll apologize.”
Lillian’s eyes dimmed. “Ms. Everest needs you too, I shouldn’t take your time… This probably isn’t her doing, though. She’s been odd lately, maybe someone’s pushing her.” She forced a smile. “Go back. Don’t mind me. She’s got too many misunderstandings already.”
“Focus on recovering,” he said coolly. “I’ll handle Serena.”
Unable to reach him, Vivienne went to the hospital. As she neared the elevator, a voice called out.

She turned to see Matt, a refined man among Edmund’s circle, kinder to her, lacking Lillian’s fanboy zeal.
“Looking for Lillian?” he asked.
“No, I’m here to talk to Edmund. You know… how’s Lillian?” Vivienne asked.
“She’s stable, no major issues. You’re here just for that?”
