A soft laugh cut through the murmurs. “Funny, my friend hasn’t said or done anything, yet she’s a murderer now?”
All heads swiveled to Dante, who smiled lazily. “Do you believe everything you hear? If I said this lady’s a homewrecker faking her illness for sympathy, would you buy that too?”
The crowd faltered, speechless.
He continued calmly. “You don’t know the full story, so don’t parrot rumors. Weakness doesn’t make someone right, and the ‘weak‘ aren’t always what they seem.”
He smirked. “Never seen a weakling sway a room with a few words.”
Faces shifted, uncertain.
Lillian stammered, “Mr. August, you’ve got it wrong, I didn’t mean to stir anyone up…”

He cut her off with a grin. “Relax, Ms. Lillian, just a hypothetical. A joke.”
His eyes twinkled. “Food’s here, sit and chat? Vivi only said she doesn’t have it, not that she won’t give it. It’s her mother–in–law who needs it, if she had it, why wouldn’t she? Maybe it’s out of stock or something else. All this crying… people might think it’s your family in trouble.”
The crowd blinked, processing.
“She just doesn’t have it, not holding out?”
“She cried without asking why, too eager or too good at this?”
“It’s not even for her, it’s that lady’s mother–in–law. Why’s she so worked up? What’s their relationship?”
Edmund’s brow furrowed, his sharp gaze landing on Lillian. She flinched, her mask slipping.
Her eyes reddened. “Eddy, I’m sorry, I just wanted to help. I’m clumsy and bad with words… my existence is a mistake…” She gave a pained smile. “Talk to Ms. Everest. I won’t bother you.”
She turned, head low, walking toward the door, her slim frame radiating lonely despair.
Outside, rain poured, drumming the windows.
Edmund grabbed her wrist, his face tight. “Where are you going? It’s pouring, you can’t get sick in your condition.”
Lillian’s voice cracked with emotion. “Where I go, whether I get wet, live or die, it’s got nothing to do with you!”
She yanked free and bolted out. Edmund hesitated a heartbeat, then chased her.
The rain hammered down, soaking anyone in seconds. He caught her just outside, pulling her back toward the restaurant. She fought him, wild and desperate. Soon, both were drenched.
Vivienne watched the soap–opera scene unfold and stood. Dante thought she’d intervene. “Need help?”
Dante asked.

“Nope.” She walked to the window, pulled out her phone, and started recording.
Dante blinked. “What are you…”

“Filming, obviously,” she said, turning with a smile. “This? Perfect for infidelity evidence or a viral post.”
He laughed.
Outside, Lillian’s shouts grew frantic, her head shaking. Edmund’s patience snapped, he scooped her up.
She thrashed in his arms until he barked something that stunned her. He shoved her into his car at the entrance and drove off.
