Victor’s imposing manner weakened as he said, “Eddy, this woman pushed Lillian down the stairs. She absolutely cannot be let off easily.”
A soft scoff came from the side. Vivienne’s voice was calm but sharp. “Mr. Victor, you weren’t even there. Which eye of yours saw me push Lillian? We’re all adults here. We should be responsible for our words. Slander and defamation can land you in jail.”
Victor was momentarily silenced by Vivienne’s retort.
Lately, Vivienne had become strangely sharp–tongued, shutting him down with every word.
Just then, Theo, who had been silent all this time, suddenly spoke. “I saw it.”
Everyone turned to look at Theo.
He pointed at Vivienne and stated clearly, “I saw it. She pushed her.”
Victor’s face instantly lit up with glee. “Eddy, see? Even your own son says it was her. How could it be fake?”
Edmund’s cold, emotionless gaze landed on Vivienne. “Why did you do it?”
Vivienne chuckled. “That’s a good question. Since even you don’t know, how would I?”
Victor snorted. “Why else? Obviously, you were jealous of Lillian. You couldn’t stand to see her doing well.”
Vivienne turned to Victor. “Jealous of her? Didn’t she say she and Edmund were just friends? That their relationship was completely clean? If that’s the case, why would I be jealous?”
Victor opened his mouth but hesitated. “That… that’s because you care about the fact that Lillian and Eddy used to be together.”
Vivienne’s smile didn’t fade. “And why would I care? Because Edmund treats her too well? Because he still can’t forget his first love? Or because they’re tangled up in some never–ending flirtation…”
Before she could finish, Edmund cut her off coldly. “Vivienne, put away your jealousy. Are you really going to say such irresponsible things in front of Theo?”
Vivienne sneered inwardly. Using the child against me again?
In the past, she would have swallowed her anger, choosing not to argue in front of Theo for fear of affecting him.
But now, looking at this father–and–son duo standing united against her, she found her past forbearance laughable.
Her voice was devoid of emotion. “You weren’t afraid of being seen when you and Lillian were openly flirting in public. I didn’t do anything, why should I be afraid?”
Edmund’s eyes turned even colder at her defiance. “Vivienne!”
“What’s wrong? Do you think you’re innocent?” Vivienne’s tone was indifferent. “I won’t even bring up everything you’ve done for Lillian in the past. Let’s just talk about today. Do you dare post the photos and videos of the three of you participating in the parent–child event online for everyone to see?”

She curved her lips into a mocking smile. “I bet not only will you refuse, but you’ll also have people wipe all footage from the scene, making sure no one leaks a single thing.”
Edmund’s face darkened further.
Before he could respond, the light above the operating room suddenly went out.
Victor sneered. “If you want to know the truth, just ask Lillian.”
Theo chimed in as well. “Mom, if you don’t apologize to Ms. Lillian this time, I will never forgive you.”
In the past, Vivienne would have panicked and tried to coax him.
But this time, she merely cast him a glance, not even bothering to defend herself, before quickly looking
away.
Her reaction unsettled Theo. He wasn’t used to this change, and an inexplicable unease rose in his heart. Lately, he felt that his mom had been acting strange. But his grandma and Victor told him it was just one of her tricks to get attention from him and his dad, and that he shouldn’t fall for it.
Thinking of this, Theo continued, “Even if you want attention, Mom, you shouldn’t hurt Ms. Lillian. If you do it again, I won’t acknowledge you as my mom anymore!”
Vivienne instinctively clenched her fists, but her expression remained indifferent. “Suit yourself.”
Theo froze. Is this just another one of her tricks?
At that moment, Lillian was wheeled out of the operating room.
Edmund and Theo’s attention shifted instantly, and they followed her back to the ward.
Victor, however, didn’t leave. He stood where he was, looking at Vivienne coldly. “Vivienne, you’re responsible for what happened to Lillian. Don’t think you can just walk away from this.”
Inside the hospital room, Lillian had already woken up.
She was gently comforting Theo, whose eyes were red from crying. “Theo, I’m fine now. I just don’t know if I’ll ever have the chance to play the violin for you again…”
