n the midst of danger, her senses became razor–sharp
She heard a familiar ringtone coming from Edmund’s phone.
Cold sweat dripped from her palm, sticky and uncomfortable.
Vivienne stared fixedly in the direction Edmund had left, unconsciously tightening her grip on her phone. Edmund’s footsteps suddenly came to a halt.
Despite having long given up on him, Vivienne’s heart pounded uncontrollably at this crucial moment. Edmund took out his phone. Seeing Vivienne’s name on the screen, his gaze darkened slightly.
Just then, Lillian’s voice suddenly rang out. “It’s Ms. Everest’s call. It looks like she’s finally come around.” Lillian gave a pale smile and weakly whispered, “Eddy, answer it. Theo needs his mom’s care. Don’t worry about me ‘m fine… Either way, I don’t have much time left.”
Edmund’s eyes flickered slightly before he hung up the call.
“I’ll take you to the hospital first.”
Ignoring everything else, he carried Lillian and left.
For a brief moment, Vivienne’s mind went blank.
It felt as though a heavy hammer had struck her heart.
Her vision went dark, and in the next instant, she collapsed.
“Oh dear, the young lady just brought to our hospital is Edmund’s first love, Lillian?”
“Yes, that’s her. You should’ve seen Mr. Harrington when he rushed her here. He was so worried, so heartbroken… Sigh, what a tragic pair. They couldn’t be together in the end. What a shame.”
“I heard Edmund’s wife was a homewrecker. She used underhanded tricks to tear them apart and forced her way into marriage.”
“I saw Mr. Harrington staying by Ms. Lillian’s bedside the whole time. The way he looked at her made my heart melt. I know I shouldn’t, but I can’t help wishing they could be together.”
Amidst the hushed murmurs, Vivienne slowly regained consciousness.
“Oh, she’s awake.”
Noticing Vivienne stirring, the gossiping voices ceased.
“Ms. Everest, how are you feeling?”
Vivienne shook her head lightly, but a wave of dizziness hit her.

The doctor said, “Aside from some minor external injuries, you have a mild concussion and a slight sprain in your foot. You’ll need to stay under observation for a few days. Ms. Everest, please notify your family so they can settle the hospitalization fees.”
Family? My family is probably glued to Lillian’s bedside right now, making sure she’s well cared for.
Vivienne’s lips curled into a faint, mocking smile.
After a long silence, she dialed a number.
After confirming that Lillian was indeed fine and finally coaxing her to sleep after endless sobbing. Edmund drove home. It was already past midnight.
The villa was shrouded in darkness.
Rubbing his worn brow, Edmund pushed open the bedroom door.
The room was dark as well.
In the past, no matter how late he came home, Vivienne would always leave a light on for him.
The moment she heard him return, she would get up right away and ask if he had eaten, if he wanted a late–night snack.
But ever since Vivienne left, none of that remained.
At first, Edmund hadn’t noticed much of a difference.
But tonight, for some reason, the silence felt unusually cold.
He abruptly flipped the switch on the wall.
Bright, dazzling light illuminated the entire room.
Yet currently, the room was completely empty.
