“Whenever I call Edmund, no matter if he’s working of doing something else, he drops everything to come over immediately. Even if…” Lillian’s eyes shimmered with a malicious glee, akin to a venomous snake poised for attack..
“Even if you two are having a moment as a married couple, he’d leave you to be with me.”
Vivienne unconsciously clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms without feeling any pain. Indeed, there were times when Edmund had left her for Lillian’s calls, more than once.
She had pleaded with Edmund not to go. All he left her with was, “Don’t make a scene,” before he calmly walked away, leaving her feeling foolish and embarrassed as if their intimacy had been an illusion.
Vivienne laughed too, looking straight at Lillian. “So, he ditched me to sleep with you?”
Lillian’s expression stiffened momentarily before regaining composure. “My relationship with Edmund isn’t as dirty as you think.”
She could lie about other things, but not about this. Even though she had been Edmund’s first love, their relationship had not been legitimate before his divorce. She would still be labeled a homewrecker. Oh, how those online critics, unable to keep their men, stood on their moral high ground, claiming any extramarital emotion was cheating. Yet, she and Edmund had known each other first.
“Dirty?” Vivienne echoed softly, not angry. “If there’s nothing between you two, what are you so proud of? Proud of your purity? Proud that you couldn’t have his child, or… proud you didn’t marry him?”
Vivienne’s words caused Lillian’s smile to fade.
“So what? Even if I didn’t marry him or bear his children, regardless of what I wanted, he’d find a way to give it to me.”
Thinking of something, Lillian’s smile returned.
“Sorry, but the wedding you and Edmund had to redo he gave it all to me. That wedding dress was even my favorite style. After all these years, Edmund still remembers my tastes…”
Vivienne raised an eyebrow, “A fake wedding, and that’s what makes you so happy? If you’re so capable. why didn’t you make Edmund divorce and marry you?
She stared into Lillian’s eyes, word by word, “Or don’t you want to?”
A flash of jealousy crossed Lillian’s eyes as her lips curled into a cold smile. “No wonder Edmund’s family doesn’t like you. His friends despise you. Even Ms. Everest’s husband and son keep your distance from them. Ms. Everest, maybe you should look at yourself for reasons.”
Vivienne smiled–lightly. “I naturally can’t compare to M. Lillian’s charm. Edmund’s sister, his friends, Edmund and Theo, and even the heavens, adore Ms. Lilian. Ms. Lillian, should I congratulate you on being so popular?”
Lillian clearly heard the sarcasm in Vivienne’s tone. She was mocking her, practically on her deathbed. The barbs they threw at each other could have belonged to a past Vivienne, who would never utter such

low–class remarks.
But now, she understood.
If someone made her life difficult, she would retaliate. Why should she exhaust herself to make others comfortable?
Suddenly, Lillian’s eyes welled up, and she pitifully said “Ms. Everest, you don’t need to remind me. I know I don’t have long to live. You’re right, everything Edmund gave me was fake… I’m sorry, that wedding was supposed to be yours…”
Before she could finish, a furious roar came from behind Vivienne.
“What do you mean, even the heavens, like Lillian? Vivienne, who are you cursing?”
Vivienne turned around to see three people standing not far behind her. Victor had a fierce expression, his presence threatening as he approached her.
“Vivienne, how dare you speak of Lillian like that? Have you no shame?”
Standing beside Victor, Matt frowned slightly.
Victor, don’t be rash. There might be some misunderstanding…
Before Matt could finish, an angry Victor interrupted.
“What misunderstanding? You heard what she just said. She’s jealous of Lillian’s popularity, saying things. like that and even wishing death on her! This two–faced woman is all smiles in front of us but bullies Lillian behind our backs. If we hadn’t overheard, who knows how long she would have deceived-us! Caught you red–handed, didn’t I?” Victor sneered.
Vivienne stood indifferently, her face showing no guilt or panic. The moment Lillian changed her tone, she suspected someone was behind her.
And there it was, Lillian’s usual trick.
When Matt saw Vivienne turn around, he nodded at her in greeting, then added, “Victor, Ms. Everest is Eddy’s wife. Even if there’s a mistake, it’s not your place to intervene.”
When Victor heard this, he froze in place. He looked at Edmund. “Eddy, you heard it all. She’s bullying Lillian. You’re not going to side with her, are you?”
Edmund’s handsome face was tense, his lips tight, his aura chilling.
Seeing this, Victor gloated, “Vivienne, apologize. Eddy furious. The consequences are severe. You’re done for.”
Vivienne glanced at Victor, staying silent.
Matt unexpectedly raised an eyebrow, wondering if it was just his imagination. He suddenly felt that today’s Vivienne… seemed a bit different than before.
Normally, she would have explained herself immediately. But today, not only did she not do so, her demeanor was also remarkably detached.

Edmund looked at Vivienne’s impassive face, his anger intensifying. He hadn’t forgotten Victor’s earlier accusation that Vivienne came here for fun.
She was already married, yet lacked the responsibility of a mother, coming to such a place?
“Vivienne, Edmund’s voice was icy. “Apologize to Lillian now!”
Victor fueled the flames. “Her words were so harsh; she needs to bow deeply to make it right!”
Vivienne tugged at the corner of her lips, unwilling to waste words with them.
She looked straight ahead, walking past Edmund. As she brushed by, Vivienne’s wrist was suddenly gripped tightly.
