I took one last look at everyone present and said with a calm smile, “Thomas, Christina, you’ll take good care of them, won’t you?”
Without waiting for their response, I turned and left decisively.
Upstairs, my parents were crying. Thomas realized he couldn’t bring himself to let me go and wanted to force me to stay.
However, their attention was quickly diverted when Christina suddenly fainted.
I took Layla back to the presidential suite at the hotel and gave her a bath. She excitedly snuggled into my arms.
She chattered nonstop, as if trying to say everything she hadn’t been able to tell me during these Christmases apart.
I looked at her tenderly, listening patiently.
When Layla mentioned the first time she met Christina, Thomas had told her this was her mother.
But she knew Christina wasn’t.
Later, my parents also asked her to call Christina “Mom.”
She still refused to compromise.

Layla looked at me with bright, sparkling eyes: “Mommy, Daddy and Grandpa and Grandma all said Christina looks a lot like you. I’m so smart–of course I wouldn’t mistake you for someone else!”
I ruffled her hair. She continued talking.
When she mentioned how Christina unconditionally spoiled Oscar, she frowned.
“Oscar never wants to brush his teeth after dinner every night, but Christina never scolds him. But I always brush my teeth like a good girl. Teacher says clean children always brush their teeth before bed!”
From Layla’s innocent words, I could guess Christina’s
intentions.
Layla was still young, and I wouldn’t let her know about these
schemes.
Before long, she said she was tired, then hugged her blanket and fell asleep.
I quietly closed the door and went to the living room to discuss the details of the property division agreement with my lawyer.
Although Thomas and I had no legal marriage, he had voluntarily given me considerable property before our wedding.

Additionally, my parents had transferred many assets to me before my marriage.
But money wasn’t important to me. I just wanted to leave cleanly with Layla.
I explained my requirements to the lawyer. The next day, he had the agreement ready.
When I arrived at the law firm, Christina got out of the
passenger seat of Thomas’s car and looked at me provocatively.
But she quickly put on a gentle expression, while he looked quite haggard.
However, that had nothing to do with me. After the paperwork was completed, I handed over the agreement.
“I’ve calculated the assets and drafted this agreement. I’ll take what belongs to us and absolutely nothing more.”
Thomas looked somewhat stiff, while Christina leaned over to examine the agreement carefully.
I waited quietly. Instead, she exclaimed, “Evelyn, if you want my properly, I can give it to you too.”
I replied directly, “No need.”

Christina bit her lower lip, looking somewhat embarrassed.
She was an orphan who had won Thomas’s and my parents‘ sympathy through flattery.
Some of the property they had voluntarily given me had indeed ended up in her hands.
But now all of that was void. After all, I was back, and those things still belonged to me.
I looked at her, feeling somewhat amused: “Even though I’m no longer Thomas’s wife and have left my parents, the property they voluntarily gave me before our marriage still legally belongs to me.”
I stated the facts directly. Christina couldn’t hide her resentment and said with a choked voice, “Evelyn, you still can’t let go, can you?”
She looked at Thomas affectionately, then turned to leave with determination: “In that case, I can leave him and your parents. You must take good care of them for me!”
However, he didn’t immediately comfort her but focused on signing the agreement.
