Shannon’s blood ran cold. She knew she was doomed. She groveled at Jesse’s feet. “Mr. Valentine, please, I’ll do anything for you. promise I won’t mess things up again.”
I
“I can make you happy and treat you right.”
Her meaning was clear, and everyone watched
with open disgust.
Harkness‘ face burned with shame.
Jesse repeated her words, his voice laced with
dark amusement. “You’ll do anything?”
Shannon’s face lit up. “Yes! Anything, Mr.
Valentine. You just tell me what to do.”
<
“Then you can start by kneeling and giving
Lindsey a hundred head–bows as an apology.”
“No way!” Shannon shrieked.
Her face twisted with jealousy as she glared at
- me. “Why does everyone love you? Why are you
the daughter of a billionaire? Why did you get
to marry Jesse? It’s not fair! It is all genetics!”
I said coldly, “Fair? You didn’t complain when
you were pushing me around and calling me a
nanny.”
“You don’t think it’s fair because you’re not the
one on top!
“You wanted more than you deserved. And this
is your just desserts.”
The cops, finally responding to Shannon’s call,
arrived.
<
“Who called about a kidnapping?”
I pointed at Shannon. “She called, but it was a
misunderstanding. I want to report her for
assault and theft.”
“Everyone here is a witness, and there’s
security footage.”
The attendees, desperate to get on Jesse’s
good side, all rushed to support my story.
Shannon, terrified of jail, shrieked, “I didn’t! I
didn’t steal anything!”
I took my bracelet back from her, pointing at
the diamonds. “Each diamond is worth millions,
Shannon. You’re going to spend the rest of
your life behind bars.”
Shannon panicked. She dropped to her knees in front of Jesse, begging. “Mr. Valentine, please, save me! Lindsey and Harkness were together
<
for four years. They still have feelings for each
other! She’s not right for you! Let me be with
you. I’ll give you everything!”
Jesse didn’t even look at her. He kicked her
away.
The police, guided by security footage, hauled
away everyone who had touched me.
Shannon, struggling and screaming, was
dragged away.
Harkness remained, staring at me, lost for
words.
I ignored him. Jesse scooped me into his arms
and carried me to the car, headed for the
hospital to get checked out.
When we got home, a crowd of people waited
outside. They were the families of those who
had hurt me, groveling for forgiveness.
く
Dad, after returning home, had declared war.
He cut off business ties with them, and some
companies had already lost their suppliers and
funding.
