Chapter 30 His Past
It seemed that Trystan had seen my text. After ending the call, I couldn’t sleep and had nothing to do, so I went to his study out of boredom.
As I was constantly occupied by work previously, I rarely had time to look through the books here. Now that I had some time off, I figured that I deserved to laze around for a bit.
Trystan’s study was large and had a wide variety of books. I flipped through some books with pictures to pass the time, and it didn’t take long before my back felt sore.
I had to put down the book and wander around the study. My gaze fell on a small cabinet tucked in the corner inadvertently.
Out of curiosity, I searched through the cabinet
photos that were quite old and worn, yet I could tell that they were all photos of Trystan when he was a boy.
I never met Trystan’s parents, so an old and faded photo of a
young couple holding a baby together with smiles on their faces
caught my eye.
The man’s eyes were quite similar to Trystan’s and Arnold’s, so I found that the man was Trystan’s father. The woman looked
gentle and elegant. She was probably Trystan’s mother.
I flipped through the photos and found that something was off.
In the next few photos, Trystan’s parents were carrying a baby
girl. Confused, I turned back and found that there were indeed
several photos where there was a little girl, about three years
old, standing beside them.
Arnold said before that Trystan was his parents‘ only child. They didn’t have a daughter. As for Baldock and his wife, they didn’t want any kids, so this couldn’t be their daughter either.
So, who was the little girl?
I couldn’t figure it out, and I assumed that it was the daughter of one of their neighbors from back then. Without giving it much thought, I continued looking through the photos.
The photos that came up were of Trystan during h
days, which showed how sentimental Arnold was, recording every special moment of Trystan’s life since Trystan was a baby.
Then I saw a group photo which seemed to have been taken
more recently. Janet, Lanny, and Peter were all in it, and there
was someone else.
It was a boy who looked bubbly and enthusiastic. All of them
were good–looking, yet the boy had a relatively pale
complexion, seeming like he had some kind of health condition.
As I didn’t know him, I didn’t try to figure out who he was.
The girl standing among the four boys was Janet. Back then, she
still gave off an innocent and shy vibe.
At first glance, one could tell that she was the precious little princess everyone coddled. How lucky.
After flipping through all the photos, I felt like my heart was squeezed by an invisible force. Trystan and Janet had a long history, whereas I had only known him for barely two years.
If it weren’t for my grandma’s illness and desperation which led her to bring me to Arnold, I would never have had the chance to marry Trystan.
In fact, I married Trystan simply thanks to Grandma and
Arnold. It was justifiable that Trystan had no feelings for me.
Come to think of it, even after such a long time, I never once
thought how Grandma and Arnold came to know each other.
Logically speaking, the Compton family was wealthy and
influential, while Grandma was just a rural old lady who lived
in the countryside. How did they meet?
I wandered a lot, and I couldn’t help but be in a daze.
Unwittingly, I stayed in Trystan’s study till the sky turned dark.
I couldn’t tell if it was because of my pregnancy, but I didn’t feel
hungry even after not eating anything for the whole day. I just
felt that I had an upset stomach.
I went downstairs and rummaged through the kitchen cabinets for something to eat. Luckily, Ann stocked up enough food previously. After a while, I saw some cucumbers in the fridge. I was too lazy to cook, so I simply washed one for my dinner.
I didn’t notice Trystan who had already gone back. It wasn’t until I walked out with cucumbers in my hand that was still wet that I saw him sitting in the living room.
When did he come back?
Hearing the sounds, Trystan turned his head and saw the
cucumbers I was holding. He frowned and said in a deep voice,
What do you plan on doing with those?
I was baffled and then answered in a matter–of–fact manner,
“Eat, of course!” What else could I do with it besides that?
Trystan scoffed, “I fail to satisfy you? Is that why you need
them?”
What?
I couldn’t quite grasp where he was going with this. What did he
mean by that? I needed them?
He stood up and approached me with a brooding look on his face. I couldn’t figure out what was up with him, so I raised the cucumbers in my hand and asked, “Do you want one?” I just so happened to wash two.
Trystan’s gaze turned stormy as he said, “No.” Before I realized it, he had snatched the cucumbers in my hand and thrown them aside. He wrapped one of his hands around my waist and used the other to graze my lips with his fingertips.
No matter how slow–witted I was, I realized what he wanted to do now. I instinctively tried to make a run for it, yet he locked me in place firmly. In a deep and husky voice, he said, “It’s already been a few days. We should be in the clear now!”
I couldn’t figure out the logic in his words.
“Trystan…” My words were cut off by his actions. I reached up to
try and push him away, yet he overpowered me as a man, and I
was utterly powerless against him.
The atmosphere turned titillating. When I felt his arousal
against my belly, my eyes widened. He…
“Trystan, no…” I gasped halfway through my sentence.
“Trystan, no. We are so not in the clear! There’s still a risk of
infection!” Janet had just recently had a miscarriage, so he
couldn’t have sex with her, and the same was true for me.
Hence, I could understand why he was acting like a sex-
deprived man right now.
Seeing him ignore my warnings, I panicked. “Trystan, the doctor said to abstain for a month. Please! I’m begging you!”
I was about to cry.
Perhaps he heard the plea in my voice, he gradually slowed down. Without a word, he hugged me tightly in his arms and then gently traced my collarbone with his lips.
After a long time, he finally calmed down and let go of me. “Hungry?” he asked with hooded eyes.
I was a bit embarrassed because of how loud my stomach had
growled. With a slight nod, I forced an unnatural smile that looked more like a grimace. I said, “I haven’t eaten anything
since I woke up.”
Trystan was stunned, and then he looked at the cucumbers. He
then looked at me with a complicated expression on his face.
“You were going to eat those?”
I nodded. “I didn’t feel like cooking because of the smoke and
grease, so I washed two cucumbers.”
He gazed at me as the corners of his mouth tugged upward
slightly as if he was smiling while exasperated at the same time.
A long while passed before he went into the kitchen. After a while, he came out with a plate of pasta along with two eggs.
When he saw the way I was gawking at him, he raised his eyebrows at me and said, “Come and eat!” Although it was an order, it didn’t sound unpleasant.
What Lanny said to me earlier today echoed in my mind. If I came clean with Trystan, would he really handle everything?
I got up and sat at the dining table. Noticing that Trystan had only cooked one plate of pasta, I blinked in surprise. “You’ve already eaten?”
He nodded and motioned for me to eat quickly. Then he

lowered his head and checked the messages on his phone.
The pasta looked and smelled delicious, yet for some reason,
after only a few bites of it, my stomach started to churn. I
managed to endure the discomfort a few times.
