Chapter 24 Resign
After contemplating for a moment, I got out of the car, walked
over to the passenger side, opened the door, and tugged at
Trystan’s sleeve. “Trystan!”
Trystan instantly woke up upon hearing his name. His stomach
was probably giving him a hard time from all the wine he had
drunk and he couldn’t sleep tight.
He slightly opened his eyes, looked at me, and then looked
around. He said flatly, “You brought me back?”
I nodded, unsure if he was already sober or still drunk. “Come
down. It’s late”
It was already almost dawn by now. Being pregnant, I simply
didn’t have the energy to stay up with him.
Trystan sat up straight, showing no intention of getting out of
the car. His dark eyes looked harmless, but I knew him. He was
unpredictable
unpredictable.
After giving it some thought, I said, “Do you want me to help
you get down?”
“I’ll bask in the sun for a while,” he answered and sat there motionlessly.
I was completely taken aback and thought, “Bask in the sun? Now?
“Exactly how drunk is he?”
“OK. Take your time.” I really did not have the energy to accompany him here, as I felt uncomfortable all over, so I went directly back to the villa.
I returned to the bedroom and lay in bed. Hearing nothing from outside, I got worried. What if he decided to head outside? What if he got into an accident?
After struggling internally, I got up and headed downstairs. To my surprise, Trystan was already lying on the couch in the living room.
I could finally sleep in peace.
After such a long night, I fell into a deep slumber, and it was already noon when I woke up.
already noon when I woke up.
I had an appointment with Grayson, so I got up, washed up
briefly, and hurried out of the door. When I got to the company,
he was already waiting in my office.
He smiled apologetically upon seeing me, “Sorry to delay your
work, Ms. Carson.”
I rushed here, so I calmed my breathing first and had Ann pour
him a glass of water. Then, we signed both the completion and
transfer agreements.
After we were done, Grayson offered, “It’s already noon. I
suppose you haven’t had lunch, right, Ms. Carson? How about a
meal together? My wife’s been wanting to thank you. I wonder
if you have time.”
I didn’t actually have other plans, but I noticed that Ann was
looking at me as though she had something to tell me. Hence, I
smiled and said, “Dr. Foster, you’re flattering me. I’m the grateful
one. Tell you what? I’ll take a rain check to eat with you some
other day. I’m afraid I have something to take care of today!”
Hearing that, Grayson had to give up. He left after exchanging
some pleasantries.

I turned to Ann. She said, “Ms. Carson, Mr. Compton wants you
to see him at his office.”
See him?
I frowned, feeling stunned. “Has our department made any
mistake recently?” Trystan normally wouldn’t summon me
over personal affairs while at work.
Unless the issue was work–related.
Ann nodded. “The accountant has approached Mr. Compton
regarding the issue with Dr. Foster. Mr. Compton seems rather
unhappy about it and wants you to drop by the CEO’s office.”
“OK” I answered and headed to the top floor at once.
Trystan’s office gave off the same cold, stern vibe that he did.
One felt chilly when being here even in the midst of summer.
The spacious office area looked frosty and unwelcoming. I
looked around and saw that the door to the meeting room was
closed. Devan caught sight of me. “Ms. Carson, Mr. Compton is
still in a meeting with Mr. Robert and Dr. Dennis.“”
I nodded while thinking, “I know Dr. Dennis is Lanny. Is Mr.
Robert Peter?”
Chapter 24 Resign
I walked over to the couch in the hall and sat down. Glancing at
my watch, I realized that it was noon already. I had left home in
such a rush that I hadn’t had anything to eat. I was now
uncomfortable and starving.
Devan poured me a glass of water and said icily, “Please wait a
moment, Ms. Carson. Mr. Compton might be done in about half
an hour!”
I took the glass from him, ignored his cold face, and asked, “Mr.
Doyle, has Mr. Compton been drinking a lot lately?”
Lexie had mentioned that Trystan had been visiting her bar
often, so I couldn’t help but try to find out why he wanted to get
drunk.
Hearing my words, Devan was stunned for a second before
answering, “I guess Mr. Compton hasn’t been in the best mood.”
“Why?” There was no way Trystan would get so upset over the
child. It usually had something to do with Janet.
Seeing me look at him with curiosity, Devan coughed and said,
“It’s Mr. Compton’s affairs, and I don’t know much about it.“”
I fell silent.
I thought, “He is too shrewd to tell me the truth.”
I waited for quite a while and slowly dozed off. Upon nearing a
few people’s voices as they came out, I tried my best to sit up
straight from the couch.
The three men who walked out of the meeting room shifted
their gazes over to me. With a slight raise of his brows and
purse of his thin lips, Lanny muttered a few words to Devan,
and the latter glanced at me and then left.
Trystan’s eyes darkened as he stared at me. I had a feeling that
he was about to unleash his wrath on me.
I hurriedly stood up upon thinking about the thing with
Grayson. “I’m willing to fully bear the losses caused to the
company in these two days, Mr. Compton.”
Trystan frowned while remaining silent. And Peter Robert,
who was standing aside, began to cause a stir. He said, “You’re
something, Ms. Carson. This is a project worth tens of millions of
dollars, and you’ve managed to incur your own husband a loss
of millions of dollars in just two days. You’re being far too
generous!”
His words were full of sarcasm.
Seeing Trystan remain silent with a grim look on his face, I
rolled my eves at Peter “You sure are a nosy one Mr. Robert”
Lanny chuckled. With his hands in his pockets, he looked at us
innocently as though completely uninvolved.
Peter glanced at him and pulled a long face. Then he turned to
me, looking dour. “What makes you think you can talk to me
like that, Evie?”
I had no intention of wasting my breath talking to Peter at all. He always loathed me and was stern to me, because he thought I stood in the way between Trystan and Janet.
We had known each other for a long time, so I chose not to mince my words. I said straightforwardly, “Are you some kind of emperor who has time–traveled to the current era, Mr. Robert? If so, I’m afraid only those from ancient times are qualified to talk to you. After all, they are of the same age as you, and they have something in common with you.””
Peter’s face flushed red in anger, as he realized that I was
mocking him. He blurted out furiously, “Even the dead have
more right to talk to me than you do! You are wicked enough to kill your own baby…”
“Peter!” Lanny cut Peter off with a frown. “Trystan and Ms. Carson have some matters to discuss. I’ve made a lunch
reservation. Let’s head over and wait for them there.”
Ms. Carson. Why don’t you and Trystan join us later?”
Before I could turn down his offer, he had already left, dragging
Peter along with him.
Only Trystan and I remained in the large office. Unsure of how he intended to deal with the matter related to Grayson, I decided to break the ice. I said, “I’m responsible for the thing with Dr. Foster. I stayed home to recuperate after the abortion and couldn’t stop thinking about the child, so I completely forgot
about the thing with Dr. Foster.”
Trystan remained gloomy and silent, so I continued, “I know I’ve
caused unimaginable losses to the company. I’ll resign…”
