Chapter 22 Pick Your Man Up
I didn’t think Trystan would be furious for long when he knew about my abortion. When he met up with Janet, it might take him only a while to move on.
But I didn’t expect that the fight between Trystan and me was just about to start.
There weren’t many people in the villa. Trystan didn’t come back because of the abortion. And I was actually okay with that.
I stayed in the villa for the whole day and didn’t go out. Ann could help when I needed anything.
Then, it was afternoon.
Ann put everything in the fridge and told me how to eat them.
Then, she walked over to me and said, “Ms. Carson, the balance
payment from River Hospital has been pending for days, and
the Finance Department has called in a few times to ask about
- it. Should you call Foster?”
I had durian in my hands and had a few bites. But I couldn’t
stand the fruit’s strong smell and threw it into the trashcan.
“About two to three days!” Ann paused. Then, she continued, “It’s not a long time. But the amount involved is quite considerable. The company has planned to use the money on a new market development project. Now that the payment has been delayed, it may affect the company’s profit for the next quarter.”
I nodded. The Compton Group’s cash flow was very dynamic. Any delay from our partners would, to a certain degree, affect something. The amount that Grayson should have paid was quite huge. Even if the money hadn’t been used for any investment and had been put in the bank, it would still make a great profit.
I paused for a moment and then said, “Dr. Foster is a man of his word. I’ve been staying at home these days and recovering. I
have forgotten this thing. It’s my fault. Tell the Finance
Department that I will deal with this as soon as I’m back to
work.”
“Yes,” Ann replied and then rose from her seat, heading for the
kitchen to make food.
I looked at my phone and there was a text from Grayson’s wife.
“Mrs. Compton, are you feeling better? Grayson has managed to

go back to work early. After replying to the message, I gave Grayson a call to set a time for him to sign the completion
agreement after he paid the payment.
When I was done, Ann was also done cooking. She had
something on and had to leave, so I didn’t insist on her staying. I said, “I think I have almost fully recovered, so you can work in the company tomorrow. I have an appointment with Grayson tomorrow, and I will deal with this.”
Ann was worried as she looked at me. “Are you sure that you are okay? You need to at least rest for about two weeks after a miscarriage, don’t you? It’s only been a few days.”
I smiled, “Don’t I look fine to you? Besides, if I didn’t settle this thing with Dr. Foster, this would be a pending problem. How much loss would the company have to bear? By that time, criticism from Trystan would be a little problem.”
I didn’t have a miscarriage. Staying at home and doing nothing, I had a lot of stuff unfinished. My belly was getting big. If I didn’t break up thoroughly with Trystan, I would be in bigger trouble.
Now I had to be quick and finish the stuff. Then, I needed to find a chance to leave River City.

What I said, Ann sighed, “Fine. But you must take good care of yourself.”
I sent Ann away and returned to the dining table, continuing to eat. Eating alone was no fun. But it was already late, and I didn’t want to go out.
After a few bites, I returned to my bedroom. Trystan wasn’t coming back, and I didn’t have much else to do. So, I spent the past several days reading at home and searching on the Internet for houses in Jettes City. If I were to live in Jettes City, I’d have to find a comfortable place for my child and myself.
A sudden phone call made me stop. I paused. It was Lexie. I picked it up, and before I could even speak, my ears rang.
“Evie, did you abort the child?”
It had only been a few days. I wondered how Lexie knew. I said, “Yeah. How did you know?”
Lexie got angry. “How did I know? How could you even ask me that? Do you even consider me your friend? How could you have done such a thing without even telling me?”
Lexie was a handful when she went mad. I covered my slightly
throbbing head. “A long delay might cause trouble, so I did it as

soon as possible. I wanted to tell you, but you ve been busy these
days, so I decided to wait a few more days!”
“Cut the crap! I’m not against your abortion, but didn’t you need someone to take care of you after surgery? How could you not tell me? What if anything happened?” Lexie was extremely worried, so she bluntly said everything she wanted to say.
I felt warm knowing that Lexie was worried about me. After letting her give me a long lecture, I said, “I plan to divorce Trystan and may leave River City after that. Do you want to
leave too?”
I chose not to tell her about the child. It wasn’t much of a point in doing so by now. But I needed to tell her about my intentions to leave. Lexie lived in River City because of me. She’d surely cut me off if I didn’t tell her that I was going to leave.
Lexie fell silent for a long while and then asked, “When will you leave? Where are you going?”
“I’m going to leave within a few months. I think Jettes City is a good place. I’d like to live there.”
Hearing that, Lexie immediately said, “Okay. I got it.”
Then, Lexie stopped talking. I didn’t expect that. Hearing
nothing more, I thought that was it, and I was going to hang up.

But Lexie suddenly said,” Come to the bar and get your man.
He’s totally drunk.”
I froze. “Trystan?”
Lexie didn’t sound happy. “What other man could it be?”
I was at a loss for words.
Why was Trystan drunk? After ending the call, I packed a few
things, put on my coat, and drove to Lexie’s bar.
Timeless Bar wasn’t far from the villa, so it only took me about
ten minutes to get there.
As usual, Lexie was drinking by the counter. Seeing me, she
complained, “He’s upstairs in the private room, totally wasted.”
I put the car keys into my purse, looked at Lexie, and asked,
“Why did he come here to drink?”
“How would I know? He came two days ago. But his hunk
assistant took him home before he could get drunk. The
assistant didn’t come today. He is probably busy. That’s why
your man got drunk,” Lexie responded with pursed lips as she
put her glass down. “You got an abortion without talking to him.
about it. What makes you think he would be in a good mood?”

I was stunned. Did Trystan get drunk because of the child?
I went up to the second floor and found the private room
Trystan was in. No one answered after I knocked twice, so I
decided to enter myself.
An intense smell of cigarettes and alcohol wafted into my nostrils the moment I opened the door. I kept the door open so
that the air in the air could be a little fresh before I came in.
Inside the dimly lit room, Trystan leaned on the sofa with his
eyes closed and lips slightly pursed. He didn’t seem drunk at all.
In fact, it looked like Trystan was just having a rest.
