Chapter 20 No Rights
With a frown, Lanny looked straight into my eyes. He was thinking about whether I was being truthful.
I was calm. I sat quietly as he scrutinized me.
After some time, he finally answered, “Sure.”
“Thank you, Dr. Dennis.” It was always pleasant to deal with
smart people. They could easily take the hint.
After the waiter served our food, he glanced at me again. “Have
you always downplayed your intelligence this way, Ms.
Carson?”
I chuckled at his words, “You flatter me. It’s just a small tactic to
protect myself. Besides, Trystan and I are really not suitable for
each other anyway. This is a bad time for us to have a child.”
Chapter 20 No Rights
LILILLY
“When are you going to leave?”
I was stunned and looked up at him. I planned to deal with the
child and divorce Trystan. As for leaving River City, I really had
no idea where I should go at the moment.
He had even guessed the last step of my plan.
I paused for a moment, putting down the fork in my hands.
“Maybe in two months. I haven’t decided on the place yet.”
“Why don’t you go to Jettes City? I think you’d live perfectly
there.” He put down his fork, drew a tissue, and wiped the
corners of his mouth elegantly.
I found it to be a good suggestion and nodded. “I’ll consider that.”
Even though Jettes City was not as prosperous as River City, the
pace of life there was slower. If I chose someplace to spend the
rest of my life, Jettes City was actually a good option.
It was supposed to be my treat, but Lanny was one step ahead of
- me.
We walked out of the restaurant together, and I said, “I owe
you one. I’ll treat you next time.”
Lanny nodded. “I hope you’ll treat me at Jettes City then.”
I was at a loss for words and only smiled.
It was getting late, and I had to go home. He suddenly asked when he got to his car, “So the surgery has been arranged?”
“Yes, tomorrow,” I turned to face him and replied.
Why should I dwell on it when the decision had already been
made?
Lanny looked at me and said, “I see. Does Trystan know?”
I shook my head. “No, and I’m not going to let him know about it.””
He frowned without making any comment.
After I started my car, I saw that Lanny was in a daze right beside his car. I felt it was best not to say much. I only said
goodbye to him and drove back to the villa.
After ten minutes, I parked the car outside the villa and did not get off. I took the divorce papers that Ann had brought to me.
A wave of depression washed over me. I had thought that I would not sign the divorce papers unless Trystan put a knife to
my neck. Never would I have expected that one day I would
willingly sign and give this to him.
Trystan had always been generous with his property. He had

promised me the villa and a large part of the yearly dividends.
from the Compton Group’s shares.
I was amused as I looked at the terms of the divorce. Maybe all
along Trystan thought that I had married him because of all
these and that I would definitely sign the papers if he gave me
what he thought I wanted.
After looking at the papers for some time, I finally signed it.
Back in the villa, I found the living room dark. I changed into
my slippers and reached for the light switch. Suddenly, I saw a
man sitting in the living room.
I was startled. He stared at me with his deep eyes. I could not
figure out what was on his mind.
I calmed down and looked at him. “Why didn’t you turn on the
lights? Have you eaten dinner yet?”
Trystan ignored my questions. “Where have you been?” Hist
tone was cool, and there was a hint of annoyance in it.
“I just went to the company.” I walked into the kitchen and said,
“I’ll make something to eat for you.””
I guessed he didn’t have any appetite after what Janet had done
at the hospital today. Why should I care about him? I was
leaving anyway. What would it have to do with me
were to starve to death?
I thought it was best to split up peacefully. He was someone I
had cared about for such a long time anyway. I should leave behind at least some sweet memories.
I suddenly felt a chill down my spine after I was cooking pasta. I turned around and met Trystan’s cold, hard gaze.
“What’s the matter?” There was only indifference in his eyes whenever he looked at me. Somehow, the look in his eyes was very complicated today. I panicked, not knowing what to do.
He did not respond, and I thought it was because he did not want to talk to me. So, I kept silent and cooked pasta for him. “We don’t have many ingredients at home. You’d have to make
do with it.”
I turned around and went upstairs to take a shower. However, he suddenly asked, “So can we make do with our marriage too?”
Stunned, I felt heartache. I would keep quiet in such a situation
some other time. However, today was different. My eyes turned
red at his words. “So what? We’ve been doing that for almost
two years, haven’t we?
“Trystan, I agree to the divorce.” I took out the divorce papers
from mu hag and nut them right in front of him I felt hitternoce
from my bag and put them right in front of him. I felt bitterness surging inside me. “I’ve signed it. Take a look at it and sign it too. Let’s set a time and go to the courthouse to go through the formalities.””
I breathed a sigh of relief after saying all this. Looking at his handsome, frosty face, I added, “Don’t worry about the child. I will deal with it in a way that is satisfactory to both you and Janet.”
One had to pay the price for what he did.
A hint of fury crossed Trystan’s face as I turned around to go. upstairs. This might be the last time we had such a conversation
in the villa.
Suddenly, I felt a grip on my wrist. “Deal with it?” The anger in Trystan’s tone was obvious.
I knew he was mad, but I did not turn around. I tried hard to
suppress my sadness and said, “I’ll deal with it properly so that it
won’t affect Janet”
“Evie!” His grip tightened on my wrist as his fury reached its
peak. “What the hell is your plan? To divorce me? To abort the
child? What’s next? Are you going to leave this city?”
“What else can I do?” Tears welled up in my eyes and flowed
down my cheeks despite myself. “I have no choice, Trystan. You always wished for me to agree to this, didn’t you? You’ve always
wanted me to stay far away from you, right? What’s wrong
with me doing this?”
Trystan’s eyes turned gloomy and icy.
“You think you’re so clever?” he snorted as he grasped my chin
with his slender fingers. I tried to break free, but he pinched it harder. We were so close together that I could feel his breath on my skin. “That is my child. You do not have the right to
determine whether to abort it.”
“I don’t have the right?” I chuckled, asking slowly, “So does Janet have the right?”
“Evie, do you want to die?” He narrowed his menacing eyes at
- me.
