Chapter 18 Decision
The Compton Group’s cooperation with the hospital was a
project under the national fund. The cooperation with the
hospital was under the company’s construction business.
Trystan had left this project to me. Grayson was Amanda’s
husband.
We had signed a contract stipulating that full payment should
be finished before the completion of the construction.
Unfortunately, Grayson had embezzled the fund, so we couldn’t
complete the construction.
To put it simply, Grayson couldn’t pay the balance to the
Compton Group on time in accordance with the contract.
After listening to Amanda’s words, I forced a smile. “Mrs. Foster,
you know that Trystan and I aren’t that close. It’s a huge
amount of money. Trystan is known for his rigorousness at
work. If something goes wrong, it will be hard for me to explain
it to him.”
Amanda panicked instantly. She thought about it and said, “Just
one more week. Please give us one more week. When Grayson
gets the money to pay the balance, we’ll thank you personally.”
It was no problem for me, but after a pause, I said, “Mrs. Foster,
the Compton Group isn’t a small company. We have strict rules
on funding. If I help Dr. Foster, I’ll have to take responsibility,
unless…”
I stopped and looked at Amanda.
“Unless what?” Amanda asked hastily as if she saw the last hope.
Looking at her, I hesitated for a while. “Unless I have a good
reason to postpone my work.”
Before Amanda could reply, I added, “There’s a nice excuse
now.””
“What is it?” Amanda asked, gripping her water glass.
“I need Dr. Foster to arrange for an ob–gyn to give me an
abortion.”
Amanda widened her eyes at my words and asked in shock,
“Mrs. Compton, you’re pregnant?”
I nodded. “Six weeks.”
“Why are you going to abort your child at this time? Does Mr. Compton know about your pregnancy?” Amanda was
bewildered. “You’ve been married for two years. The child has
arrived at the right time.”
I gave her a smile. “Trystan and I aren’t ready yet, so…”
I paused briefly. “I can use the excuse to postpone the completion. Please tell Dr. Foster about it, Mrs. Foster.”
“Does Mr. Compton know about this?” Amanda asked unconvincingly.
I nodded. “Yes.””
“Well, what a pity!” she sighed, feeling it was improper to say anything else.
Things were done at this point.
Ann Grantham prepared some supplements for Amanda before she left. “Go to the president’s office and ask Devan to hand me the divorce agreement that Trystan drafted earlier,” I told Ann
after Amanda was gone.
Ann was dumbfounded. “Ms. Stovall…”
Chapter 19 Divorce
Ann had worked with me for about two years, and she was well aware of the things between Trystan and me. Frowning, she said, “If you agree to the divorce, you’ll let Mr. Arnold down.
“Besides, if you agree to it right now, the shares that Mr. Arnold had transferred to you will belong to Mr. Compton. Ms. Carson, you’ll suffer losses from this decision.”
I was well aware of her worries. After looking at the time, I found it was already quite late. So, I did not explain things any
further. “I have my plans. Please get me the documents. I need to
go out later.”
Ann stormed out of the office when she noticed that I did not
listen to her.
