Chapter 17 Trystan’s Attitude
al
Janet held onto Trystan’s sleeves, sobbing like a lonely and
helpless child who had got lost.
Trystan pulled her into his arms. “Janet, you’re not alone, and
you won’t be alone. Calm down, okay?”
Janet begged, her eyes swollen from crying, “Trystan, please
don’t let her give birth to the child. Do you want me to die?”
She sounded so determined.
She sounded so determined.
Anger flashed across Trystan’s eyes. “Janet, stop messing
around.”
Seeing this, Janet gave him a sudden shove, grabbed a fruit
knife, and slashed her wrist.
Her actions were so quick. Trystan and I had not expected that Janet would do something so extreme. He panicked as he picked
her up and wanted to take her to the emergency room.
Janet gripped the bed’s railing, refusing to release it. She gazed at
Trystan with red eyes as she repeated, “Don’t let her give birth
to the child!”
I was stunned. Why was Janet so determined on this? Before
Trystan could reply, I said, “Janet, don’t worry. I won’t!” I took a
deep breath to suppress my heartache. “I won’t give birth to the
child.”
“Evie!” Trystan roared, his eyes blazing with rage.
“If you don’t take her to the emergency room, she might die.
Imagine how sad you’ll feel!” I said bitterly.
Pursing his lips, Trystan glanced at me with unreadable eyes
before he left with Janet in his arms.
I stood alone in the ward. The pool of blood on the floor, which obviously belonged to Janet, was shocking.
My fever was gone, but the doctor told me to get another IV of liquid nutrition. I wasn’t in the mood to stay, so I refused and left the hospital.
After a night of heavy rain, River City was washed clean. I didn’t return to the villa. Instead, I went to Compton Group.
At the company’s lobby, the receptionist hurriedly came up to me. “Ms. Carson, the wife of Dr. Foster from River Hospital is
waiting for you in your office. She has been there for about
fifteen minutes.”
I nodded as I pressed the elevator button. “Tell Ann to prepare some gifts for Mrs. Foster. They don’t have to be very expensive
but have to show our sincerity.”
The receptionist nodded.
After entering the elevator and pressing the button, I called
Lanny. After two rings, he answered, “Evie?”
I was amazed to hear him calling my name. With a frown, I
asked, “Are you free tonight? Can we meet?”
He seemed surprised at my invitation. “Sure,” he replied after a

short pause. “Tell me about the time and location.”
“I’ll send them to you later.” The elevator arrived, and the doors
opened. I hung up and sent the details to Lanny.
Then, I went to the bathroom to fix my makeup before
returning to my office.
Trystan and I had been married for two years. I couldn’t win his
heart, but I had achieved considerable success at work.
I was no longer the ignorant newcomer. Now, I was capable
enough to deal with different problems at work. I improved a
lot.
In my office, an elegantly dressed woman was sitting on the
black leather sofa, reading something on her phone.
I knocked twice on the half–closed door before going in. “Mrs.
Foster, I’m sorry to have kept you waiting. There was a traffic
jam.” I greeted her with a smile.
Amanda Perry stood up with a smile the moment she saw me.
“It’s okay. I just arrived too.”
After exchanging pleasantries, Amanda went straight to the
point. “Mrs. Compton, I’m sorry to disturb your work. You know
that Grayson signed a contract with the Compton Group earlier,

right? Nevertheless, such a big thing has happened. Can you
help us persuade Mr. Compton to postpone the completion date
of the construction? If so, Grayson and I can take a breath.”
