Chapter 16 Attempted Murder
I nodded honestly. “He wants a divorce. If I tell him about the
child, he might think that I am using it to force him not to
divorce me.”
Lanny raised his eyebrows. “But he already knows about it.
What are you going to do?”
I was stumped by his question.
Trying to sound him out, I asked, “Does Trystan want this
child?”
“I’m not Trystan,” replied Lanny. He put his phone in his pocket
as he glanced at me. “But Trystan is already thirty. There’s no
reason for him to refuse the child”
After saying that, he left with his hands in his pockets.
According to Lanny, Trystan wanted the baby.
It seemed that my happiness was premature. When Janet broke
into my room, I was still on a drip. She rushed in madly as she
gripped my throat.
Her eyes were scarlet. “Why? Why did you get pregnant? Evie,
you killed my child. I won’t let your child live!”
As her hands were tightly around my throat, I couldn’t breathe.
All I could do was try to pry her hands off me. She had
obviously lost her mind, unable to control herself.
“I won’t let you give birth to it. You won’t be able to use the child
to tie Trystan to you!” she declared with a vicious look.
She always looked weak and frail, but right now, I couldn’t
resist her strength at all.
I managed to squeeze out a few words. “You will pay for my
life… with your own…”
She sneered and tightened her grip on me. “I can kill both you
and your child. It’s worth it!”
“Janet, what are you doing?” Trystan’s cold and deep voice rang
from the door.
Hearing the familiar voice, Janet froze at once. The fierceness in her gaze faded away. As tears flowed out of her eyes, she fell onto the ground at Trystan’s sudden appearance as if she had lost all her strength.
Trystan picked her up quickly while I regained my freedom. I instantly gasped for air.
It took me a while to calm down. Janet was crying pitifully in Trystan’s arms, “Trystan, you promised me that you wouldn’t
allow any other woman to give birth to your child. You
promised me!”
I looked at the loving couple serenely. I could not describe my
feelings. Anyway, I didn’t feel good.
Trystan glanced at me frostily as he patted Janet’s back to
comfort her in a charming voice. “Stop crying. You’ve just
recovered. It’s not good for your health.”
Janet looked up at him. She wiped her tears and asked, “Trystan,
you won’t allow her to give birth to the child, right?”
I gazed at Trystan, waiting for his answer nervously.
Trystan didn’t even look at me. Instead, he stared at Janet gently
as he wiped her tears away. “Don’t mess around, Janet.”
I secretly sighed in relief at his answer. At least, Trystan was not going to ask me to abort the child.
“I’m not!” Janet grew emotional again. Her tears gushed out uncontrollably as she pulled Trystan’s shirt pitifully. “Trystan,
you promised to take care of me. Since Alfred died, you have
been the only one who I can rely on.”
Weeping, she pointed at me. “If she gives birth to your child, you won’t divorce her, right? Will you go back on your word to me?
Will you take care of me forever? You’ll have your own family,
but I’ll have nothing. I don’t want to be alone…””
