Chapter 13 At the Police Station
“Yes, so what?” the thug replied with an evil smile. “You threw that glass at me, right?”
I tilted my head. “I didn’t do it purposely. Sorry.”
“Fuck you! Do you want to die?” yelled the thug as he waved his wooden stick at me menacingly. Lexie and I avoided it. Seeing a beer bottle on a table aside, I picked it up and flung it at him.
The other thugs were watching the fun before Lexie and I fought back. They immediately grabbed their wooden sticks and charged at us.
Lexie and I were good at fighting, so we were not at a disadvantage. When the police arrived, everyone was slightly wounded. We were taken to the police station together.
After giving our statements, Lexie and I had to be bailed out. We were the victims, but we had fought the thugs.
Lexie was an orphan. I was her only friend in River City. So, she had to rely on my connections to be bailed out.
I spent my days at the office and at home. As I was not sociable, I didn’t have many friends. Thus, I decided to call Lanny for help.
The phone was picked up after a few rings. As the person on the other end of the line was silent, I felt slightly awkward as I said, “Dr. Dennis, sorry for disturbing you at this hour. Can you help me? I’m now at the police station. Can you come and bail me out?”
As there was still no response, I hurriedly added, “Dr. Dennis, please.”
Soon, someone said coldly, “Evie!”
It was Trystan’s voice.
Why did Trystan answer Lanny’s phone?
I was both shocked and scared. “Trystan, you…”
“Where are you?” he interrupted me icily.
I could sense Trystan’s displeasure even on the phone.
“Circle District Police Station!” Once I answered, he hung up.
Lexie was gazing at me. “Why didn’t you call Trystan directly? You got yourself into trouble.”
I held my forehead. “When I left the villa, Trystan had drunk. I thought that he’d be sleeping, so I called Lanny instead. I didn’t know…”
I didn’t know that Trystan would answer Lanny’s phone.
Half an hour later, Trystan came into the police station with an entourage. He was cold, imposing, and handsome.
Besides, his name would be in the financial newspaper every day. Almost everyone in the police station went to greet him.
Seeing that, Lexie bumped my shoulder. “I get why you’re so obsessed with him. He’s an outstanding man. Women all covet him, eager to be his wife. Not to mention that you sleep with him every day.”
I rolled my eyes at her. Earlier, she was urging me to get a divorce, yet now…
Women were so fickle.
As soon as Trystan signed the papers, Lexie and I were allowed to leave.
At the door of the police station.
The police officer who had arrested me and Lexie earlier said to us, “If such things happen again, don’t fight. You can call the police.”
Lexie and I glanced at each other. We smiled at the police officer as we thanked him.
The moment we turned to leave, Lexie murmured, “Damn it. If I hadn’t fought them, I would have been dead when the police arrived.”
I wanted to say something, but abruptly, I felt a chill down my spine. Turning my head around, I saw Trystan standing by his black Jeep in his black suit quietly.
