Chapter 12 Thugs
So many things happened recently. I didn’t know how to deal with them, so I went to Lexie Spender.
She was at Timeless Bar.
It was still early, so there were few customers. Lexie ordered a cocktail and handed it to me. “Why did you come here at this hour? What’s wrong?”
I glanced around at the girls spinning around the poles. Hearing the loud pop music and shouting, I shook my head. The cocktail glass was already against my lips when I put it down. “Nothing. I came for fun.”
“Did Trystan bully you again?” Lexie asked in anger. “If you cannot stand him, get a divorce. You’re attractive enough to get other men whom you like. Why should you stay with such a cold guy forever? Are you not tired?”
Lexie was always straightforward. We were good friends, and we experienced many things together. She was a decisive, carefree person, so she hated seeing me mope over Trystan.
I passed the pregnancy report to her as I said resignedly, “Even though I’m attractive, will any man accept me if I have a child?”
Grabbing the pregnancy report from me, Lexie looked at it carefully. Her eyes widened as she asked, “You’re six weeks pregnant? You never had sex with Trystan, did you? How come you are pregnant?”
“Do you remember I got drunk last month? Trystan came to pick me up.” I got the pregnancy report back from her.
It took her a while to calm down. “So what are you going to do?”
I shook my head. To be honest, I was at a loss for what to do next.
“Abort it,” suggested Lexie. “Trystan and you don’t belong together. Arnold is dead, so the child will only bring you trouble. You’d better abort it and get a divorce. Life is long. You should move on and start new relationships.”
I was in a daze. As more and more people came to the bar, I told Lexie, “Go on with your work. I’ll stay here alone.”
It was clear that I wouldn’t listen to her advice. Seeing this, she changed my cocktail to orange juice, rolling her eyes before she left.
As night fell, the bar became crowded and lively. Lexie was too busy to talk to me, so I sat in a corner and gazed into space blankly.
Watching the people walking around in the bar, I was in a trance.
I didn’t even realize it when the thugs made trouble in the bar. It wasn’t until people started screaming and making other noises that I snapped back into reality.
A few thugs were in the bar, surrounding Lexie. Most of the customers had left. Even the booming music stopped.
I was sitting in the dim corner, so no one noticed me. The thugs around Lexie were holding wooden sticks.
It was obvious that they were here to find fault. To my surprise, Lexie was very calm. Eventually, she asked them, “Are you here to cause trouble or to have fun?”
“To cause trouble, of course. Missy, if you’re bold enough, have fun with us!” the leader said lewdly as he reached out for Lexie’s cheek.
Before the thug could touch Lexie, I threw the orange glass right at him.
Being hit in the hand, the thug roared in pain, “Who did that?”
“Me!” I stood up from my seat as I boldly walked up to them. Lexie looked anxious at me. “Why are you still here?”
I was speechless. Lexie actually thought that I had left earlier.
Rolling my eyes, I replied, “Where else could I be?”
“What a fool you are!” Lexie chided. She stood in front of me protectively as she whispered, “If we fight later, you should escape.”
I knew that she was worried about me, so I didn’t explain further. Looking straight at the thug whom I had attacked earlier, I asked, “Are you ganging up against a young girl?”
