Chapter 11 Will You Stop?
When I arrived at Janet’s ward, she was already asleep. There was a middle-aged woman in the room who was the caretaker that Trystan had hired. The woman greeted me politely as she told me that she was going to look after Janet under Trystan’s orders. This meant that I no longer had to stay here.
I walked out of the hospital and got a taxi to bring me home.
After being busy for a night, I found that it was dawn by the time I came back to the villa. I found that I was frequently tired. Maybe it was because of my pregnancy. So, I drowsily went to my bedroom and went to bed.
The heavy smell of tobacco roused me from my deep sleep. Opening my eyes, I was startled by the black figure sitting at the edge of my bed. It took me a while to recognize Trystan.
I didn’t know when he had returned home, but the bedroom was filled with thick smoke. The doors and windows were all closed tightly. He held a burning cigarette between his fingers. It seemed like he had smoked for a long while.
“You’re back.” I sat up and stared at him.
I had never seen him smoke before. Since he was now smoking in the bedroom, something must have happened.
He said nothing as his eyes fell on me. I couldn’t read his face at all. The thick smoke was choking me, so I threw back the covers and got out of bed to open the window.
Meanwhile, Trystan was sitting on the sofa. When I walked past him, he suddenly pulled me into his arms and hugged me tightly, which made me feel afraid.
“Trystan!” I didn’t know the reason for his sudden action, but I couldn’t stand him reeking of tobacco. So, I struggled, yet he didn’t let go of me.
I stopped struggling, looking back at him. “You’re drunk?” I didn’t find it earlier, but now that I was in his arms, I smelt the alcohol on his breath.
“You don’t hate me?” he suddenly asked. I was puzzled as I stared at him carefully. He was frowning tightly. I saw that there were beard stubs on his jaw. He must have been too occupied recently to shave them.
“Of course I do,” I answered truthfully as I reached out to pry his hands off me. Yet he held me tightly and refused to release me.
“What’s wrong, Trystan?” I asked in confusion.
“Will you stop?” He was staring at me in a daze, probably because he was drunk.
“Stop what?” I asked quizzically.
He stopped talking. As he began to touch me with his palms, I was keenly aware of what he wanted to do.
I instinctively stopped him with a frown. “Trystan, I’m Evie, not Janet. Look carefully.”
He just quietly picked me up, kissing my lips greedily and fiercely. I was surrounded by his alcoholic breath.
“Trystan, I am Evie! Look at me!” I cupped his face in desperation, forcing him to look at me.
He gazed at me silently with tired eyes. He grunted in reply without stopping his actions.
His suit was all wrinkled now. He removed his jacket and flung it at the bed foot.
When I noticed the mess on the ground, I snapped back to my senses. I was pregnant. We could not do this.
I pulled him away and covered myself with the covers. “Trystan, you’re drunk,” I told him.
With that, I walked out of the bedroom.
After changing my clothes, I headed out. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to keep the child if I stayed here.
