Simon’s voice lost some of its earlier chill. “Lily, Lizzy really loves John. If he can’t stay by her side until the end, she’ll carry that regret forever. So stop clinging to John. And stop going after Lizzy. If you just come to the hospital and apologize to her, I’ll let you go this once.”
Lily was already burning up with fever. Now, slammed onto

entire body felt like melted glue.
She had no strength left in her limbs.

So she did the only thing she could–gritted her teeth, lifted her head, and slammed it straight into Simon’s face, hoping the pain would make him back off.
“Lily, right no-”
Come with me to the hospital. Apologize to Lizzy.
Simon hadn’t even finished speaking when Lily suddenly jerked her head up and bashed it into his.
Their lips brushed in the collision–just for a second.
But it was like cotton candy laced with electricity–sweet and shocking–tingling against his mouth and searing into his
nerves.
In that instant, he forgot why he was even here. Forgot what day it was.
He just stared blankly at her lips, trying to understand–How could they be this soft? This sweet?
But before he could find the answer, John’s voice sliced through the air, ice–cold and brittle like shattering glass. “Simon. How dare you touch her again?”
The next second, John grabbed Simon by the collar and hurled him hard to the ground.
Simon had been trained as the Bale family’s heir since he was a child–his combat skills were top–notch, not inferior to John’s.
But a moment ago, when he glanced down, he caught sight of Lily’s pale collarbone.
Just one look, and he thought of a peeled lychee.
That brief moment of distraction was all it took for John to seize the upper hand.
“You’ve got a death wish.”
Seeing Simon’s ears flushed red, John’s jealousy flared out of control.
Without hesitation, he landed a punch straight on Simon’s face. “If you ever touch my girlfriend again, I swear I’ll Get out!”
“You’re the one with a death wish!”
Snapping back to reality, Simon returned the punch–harder.

“Lizzy was in so much pain, she slit her wrists! And here you are, chasing Lily around! What do you want her to think?”
“If anything happens to Lizzy, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life!”
The moment Simon mentioned Elsa, John’s eyes flickered with conflict.
But even so, he couldn’t just let Simon manhandle Lily.
Without saying another word, he kicked Simon in the chest. “Out!”

Rage boiled in Simon’s eyes. He was about to strike back when his phone started ringing urgently.
It was Wendy calling.
She said Elsa hadn’t stopped crying.

Heart pounding, Simon shot John a cold glare before turning and storming out.
“Get out.”
Lily didn’t want to see John either.
After catching her breath, she sat up against the headboard and glared at him coldly.
“Lily. I told you–stay away from Simon.”
Lily had never wanted to be near Simon.

She found him repulsive.
Him falling on her just now? Pure accide
They couldn’t stand each other. There was no way some dumb stumble would suddenly ignite anything between them.
Besides, she and John were already over. She didn’t owe him an explanation.
She just said coolly, “What I do is none of your business. Please leave to keep this going?”
my room.
Even when she’d run away from home, she’d still carried their photo with her.
They’d made a vow beneath the silk tree, swearing to stay together till death.
Don’t ever come back. How long do you plan
She had even tied strands of their hair together and buried them under that tree, saying she wanted to be with him in the next life too.
She had no friends, had been cast out by the Ginger family–he was the only one she had left. Her only home. Her
support.
She loved him so deeply. How could she ever truly want to break up?
It had just been a spur–of–the–moment threat.
But he didn’t have the patience to entertain her tantrums.

His voice turned cold again. “Don’t bring up breaking up again. You shouldn’t have posted those screenshots and that video. Just apologize to Elsa and let it go.”
“Ha!”
Lily actually laughed at that.
Simon had just said the same thing–and now here came John too!
But honestly, she had no idea what she was even supposed to apologize for.
She tilted her head, smiling like she didn’t know him at all, then said slowly, “So Elsa played dirty first. She led the charge, smeared me as a homewrecker–and I’m not even allowed to prove I’m innocent?”
“Elsa wasn’t the one who released those photos and videos,” John said, trying to keep his cool. “I investigated it already. The person who posted the shots of you leaving our home was a classmate from your high school.”
