Nancy’s gaze turned even colder, the sarcasm in her eyes cutting like a blade.
“Who would’ve thought the Luke family gave our daughter–in–law a pair of counterfeit bangles as a welcome gift?”
Then her sharp eyes shifted to Elsa. “And who would’ve thought that my daughter–in–law couldn’t afford a single dress?”
Daughter–in–law?
The entire room gasped.
Diana’s face turned the color of blended spinach juice.
She’d thought that by siding with Wendy today and helping twist the narrative, she’d get closer to Elsa and score a few perks.
After all, Lily was just some plaything Mr. John had thrown out like garbage. What was the harm in stepping on her a few more times?
She had calculated every angle–but she never calculated this.

Wendy’s face was ghost–white as she stumbled backward.
She never imagined that despite being old classmates with Nancy, with a long–standing friendship, Nancy would give her not even a shred of respect in front of everyone.
