Chapter 7
It took a few moments before Allison could speak again.
“What… happened?”
Her vision went dark, and she could only catch fragments of conversation.
“A dangerous mission… badly hurt… Rafael said not to visit him yet…”
Allison clenched her teeth, and every word she spoke felt soaked in pain. “Why?”
There was a long pause. Then the person on the other end finally replied in a quiet tone, “He has his reasons. Allison, please don’t worry. Before your transfer, we’ll take care of everything for both you and Rafael. Someone from the police department will pick you up tonight, so please get ready.”
Allison closed her eyes for a while, then answered in a scratchy voice, “Alright.”
The heartache felt like it was tearing her apart, and she nearly blacked out again, memories flashing through her mind.
Back when she was with Jacob, Rafael never really approved of their relationship. But Jacob had once promised sincerely in front of him, “I’ll love Allison with everything I have and make her the happiest woman alive.”
Rafael once told her he’d met all kinds of people in his years as a detective, but something about Jacob didn’t sit right with him. She used to believe that he was just biased against negotiators because of what had

happened with their mother.
She had tried hard to mend things between the two men, but when it didn’t work out, Rafael chose to cut ties with her completely.
Allison woke in a daze, her face already streaked with tears.
Now that she was awake, she couldn’t stop thinking. “Why did Jacob try to cut me off from Rafael?
“Did Rafael uncover something about Sadie?”
She didn’t have time to figure it out. She just wanted to see Rafael once before the transfer. Maybe even leave with him, start over.
She didn’t want to waste another second. She rushed home, packed up quickly, and headed out. But to her surprise, Jacob was already waiting
there.
Even though they had ended things on a bad note not long ago, he still wore a kind and gentle look like nothing had happened.
“Allison, now that you’re back, can we sit down and really talk?”
She stepped past him and said coldly, “There’s nothing left to talk about.”
“Why can’t you just listen to me? You never used to be this way!” Jacob snapped.
Allison gave a sudden laugh, bitter and hollow. Her head was still bandaged, and her eyes looked distant and empty.
“Oh? You want me to listen? Listen to you say that the two of you had ‘nothing going on‘ but somehow, there’s a child?”
Jacob’s eyes widened, and he moved closer. “You’ve got it wrong! That

was an accident…”
“Accident or not–it doesn’t matter anymore,” Allison said quietly, her voice low and tired. “Jacob, let’s end this. We’re done anyway…”
“I won’t let that happen!” Jacob suddenly shouted, his face contorted with rage. “You pushed me into this!”
Before Allison could do anything, he pulled out a small spray bottle from his pocket and aimed it at her face.

A strong, sharp smell hit her nose. She tried to hold her breath, but it was already too late. Her body went weak, and she collapsed into Jacob’s arms.
“I won’t let you leave me! Allison, I can’t live without you!” He shouted as he carried her away quickly.
Allison felt dizzy and was barely conscious. She could faintly hear sounds around her, but her eyes were too heavy to open.
She noticed him putting her in a car. After driving for a long time, the car finally stopped. Then she heard him talking to someone.
“I didn’t think Allison would be so heartless. She wanted to get rid of the baby Sadie is carrying. I have to keep them apart.”
at sea for
“That island is really far away. Mrs. Stinson might be drifting days. It’s no different from being locked up,” someone responded.
Jacob said, “Well, she wanted to throw Sadie in jail. Let her have a taste of prison herself!”
Then, she heard Sadie say, “Thank you, Jacob, for standing up for me.”
Allison caught the salty scent of the sea breeze and soon felt herself being lifted onto a rocking boat. Moments later, the boat started moving farther

from land, and the crashing waves grew louder and louder.
Through the noise, she heard Jacob’s rough, strained voice..
“Allison, wait for me. I’ll come back for you.”
Allison lay motionless, her heart as cold as the deck beneath her. She bit
down hard on her tongue, hoping the sharp pain would help her stay awake. Soon, the taste of blood filled her mouth.
“Jacob, you won’t make it in time.
“I’ve asked the police department for… coordinate confirmation…”
A helicopter lifted off silently, vanishing over the sea without a trace.
Back on land, Jacob stood frozen, watching the boat vanish into the night. His throat tightened with sorrow, and an emptiness grew in his chest.
Next to him, Sadie gently took his hand and whispered, “Let’s go, Jacob…”
But before she could finish, a thunderous explosion shattered the silence.
A fiery blast lit up the ocean, sending massive waves crashing outward.
His eyes widened in horror. His pupils turned a deep red, and he cried out with all his strength.
“Allison!”
The boat on the sea was blown to ashes…
