Chapter 13
“Sir, the DNA test report has come out, it doesn’t match you…”
When the security guard brought the test report to Jacob, there was no surprise on his face, as if he had long expected this.
Sadie was full of lies, even approaching him was deliberate, he recalled her eager appearance that day… it was probably to cover something up.
It was laughable how he was like a clown, being led by the nose, and yet he had genuinely looked forward to that child.
After all, it was his first child…
But his first child was clearly one he and Allison had eagerly awaited! Hatefully, at that time because Sadie returned to the country, he neglected Allison. On the day they lost the child, how heartbroken and sad Allison
must have been.
Jacob suddenly raised his hand and fiercely slapped himself.
“Smack!”
The crisp sound startled the security guard beside him. “Sir!?”
Jacob hadn’t held back at all with that slap. Soon, one side of his face. flushed red. He recalled the two slaps Allison had given him before…
Too light, they were too light. He deserved it.
He wished Allison would come back. He was willing to endure any

beating.
“Sadie’s case… keep investigating…”
He spoke hoarsely, walking step by step across the deck before plunging into the water once more.
All these days, he never stopped searching for Allison. Countless times he exhausted himself underwater, nearly drowning before colleagues hauled
him out.
When barred from diving, Jacob would lie on the deck drinking. Bottle after bottle of high–proof liquor burned all the way down to his gut. Only after drinking himself into a stupor could he find moments of peace.
Sometimes Allison appeared before him, smiling gentle as ever.
“Allison…”
Icy seawater engulfed him, the suffocating sensation returning as he murmured that name, his heart being torn apart.
He would find Allison, he must–he couldn’t bear life without her.
Pulled from the sea once more, Jacob was hospitalized. Upon waking, an unexpected figure sat by his bed.
“Commander?”
Commander Johnson turned, releasing a heavy sigh. “Jacob, why must you do this?”
Jacob’s eyes reddened, his gaze shifting away as he rasped, “I can’t… live without Allison.”

Commander Johnson’s expression grew complex. After a prolonged
silence, his voice dropped: “Recall all search teams immediately. This reckless pursuit ends now.”
Jacob parted his lips but no words came.
Yes, he had already expended too much manpower and resources these past days. He could no longer afford to be willful.
“Requesting a speedboat from headquarters. I’ll search for her myself.”
Commander Lin waved dismissively. “We’ll discuss that later. It’s been too long since you’ve rested at home. Take a few days off.”
“But Commander, I-”
“That’s an order! Otherwise, I’ll close off the waters immediately!”
Jacob instantly fell silent. His shoulders slumped as he clenched his jaw. After a long pause, his voice emerged in a broken whisper:
“Commander… have I… have I truly lost her forever?”
The fear he’d suppressed for days surged through him like a tidal wave. Tears rolled down his cheeks as agony tore through his chest like a gaping hole, spreading through his entire being.
It hurt so much. It really hurt so much.
He was the one who killed Allison. It was all his fault! He might as well damn well die too!
“You stay well, and you might just see her again?” Commander Michael Johnson’s vague, almost teasing words made Jacob snap his head up.

But Commander Johnson said no more, simply waving a dismissive hand. “I’m leaving now. You should go home and rest properly.”
Every question Jacob wanted to ask got choked back, yet his heart began pounding violently in his chest.
Did Commander Johnson… know something?
