Chapter 12
This was an intensively guarded hospital room. Only after Allison presented her ID card did the security guard at the door let her in.
The room lay dimly lit. A gaunt figure sat in a wheelchair, not looking up at the sound, just rasping, “Leave the documents on the table.”
Allison stayed silent, rooted in place as her eyes traced the figure before her.
Rafael had truly withered–protruding bones threatened to pierce his skin. A savage scar tore across his cheek down to his neck, barely missing his throat.
Allison suddenly felt breathless. As the man frowned, she whispered softly, “Rafael.”
At that moment, the man in the wheelchair snapped his head up, staring in disbelief. His unharmed half–face bore a striking resemblance to
Allison.
“Allison… Allison?” His voice trembled with uncertainty, hushed as if not to startle anything.
Allison could hold back no longer; tears streamed down her face.
“Rafael!” Her initial hesitation vanished instantly. She rushed forward, knelt down, and hugged Rafael tightly. “Rafael-”
Suddenly, she burst into sobs, as if pouring out all her sorrow and guilt at

Rafael’s somewhat pale lips trembled as he reached out, incredulously embracing the person in his arms. Only after a long while did he speak: “I thought… I’d never see you again.”
Allison was overwhelmed by a wave of immense sorrow.
If it weren’t for her misplaced trust in Jacob, if it weren’t for her failure to persist in finding Rafael, how could she have ended up in this situation? It was her stupidity, her incompetence that hurt Rafael.
Sorry, Rafael, sorry!”
“Don’t cry, Allison, don’t cry…”
After a while, Allison looked up, her eyes blurred with tears. She reached out trembling, seeming to want to touch Rafael’s leg, but trembling, she never did.
Rafael, however, smiled indifferently. “Two years ago, something happened in Vietnam. I’ve gotten used to it.”
His tone was casual, yet his expression was clearly laced with
regret. “I’d planned to see you after that mission no matter what, but I was in a coma for half a year. When I woke up… it wasn’t convenient anymore. Alright, stop crying now.”
Allison couldn’t control her tears. She’d always believed her brother had cut ties because he couldn’t accept them. Never had she imagined he’d endured such suffering while she remained unaware.
And Jacob had kept pretending to be the victim!
“Brother, I saw those texts–I didn’t send them…”

She haltingly recounted those days. Rafael’s expression shifted repeatedly before he finally rasped, “I knew it… My Allison would never say those things.”
An icy glint flashed in his eyes. “What did Jacob do to you? I won’t let him get away with this!”
“Brother, what’s between him and me–I’ll settle that score myself. Every last bit of it!”
The siblings hadn’t seen each other for years, yet after clearing the air, it seemed as if all barriers had vanished. They talked for quite a while before sharing dinner together.
Only after the meal did Rafael retrieve a file he’d kept hidden in the cabinet, handing it to Allison.
“This belongs to that negotiator… from Mother’s incident. Over the years, I uncovered some details. I kept them from you to avoid complicating things or drawing you into danger.”
Allison took it, a bitter taste rising in her mouth.
Perhaps her brother feared her loyalty to Jacob kept her from sharing this….
As Allison opened the file, astonishment grew with each page. Her eyes widened slowly, absorbing the revelations within.
Sadie’s diplomatic envoy identity… is fake!?
Rafael’s face was grim, he nodded, with a storm in his eyes: “So, that time she was completely non–compliant!”

This indirectly caused Mother’s death, it’s not too much to say she is their mother’s murderer!
Allison felt both angry and painful in her heart, she took a deep breath, and said hoarsely: “I will definitely make them all pay the price.”
