Chapter 10
Three, two, one!
Just as the kidnapper reached for Sadie, everyone sprang into action.
The crosshairs flashed, a bullet fired, hitting right between the eyes!
Jacob Jacob shouted sharply: “Sadie! Get down!”
But Sadie seemed frozen in fear. As the gunshot rang out, she screamed and bolted toward the back door.
Her action immediately gave the kidnapper time to react, the sniper didn’t dare to act, the team rushed forward, Jacob’s expression changed, “Be careful!”
The angry kidnapper jumped up, the blade pointed straight at Sadie’s
back.
At the critical moment, Jacob lunged forward, shoving Sadie aside, his shoulder cut open by the blade with a bloody wound.
He grunted, pulling Sadie back.
“Run!”
Just as he was about to retreat, a strong force hit his back–Sadie actually pushed him out!
Jacob lost his balance completely, crashing into the kidnapper holding the blade.
Chapter 10
“Thud!”
The cold blade pierced his abdomen, Jacob’s eyes widened, the kidnapper’s frenzied face right before him.
Sadie screamed from behind, “No, not me!”
Team members rushed over, kicking the assailant to the ground as Jacob collapsed right after, disbelief still in his eyes.
Sadie shoved him forward?
Excruciating pain forced Jacob to his knees, blood rapidly soaking through his uniform.
“Captain!”
“Sir! Hold on! Medic-”
Before Jacob could process anything, darkness swallowed him whole.
When his eyes fluttered open, excruciating pain in his abdomen hit him first.
“Captain! You’re finally awake!”
Jacob tried to speak, his throat parched like packed with sand. “The mission…”
“Don’t worry, Captain! Core members only sustained minor injuries. One assailant was neutralized on–site, the other apprehended!”
Jacob gasped for breath, clutching the man’s arm desperately. “Sadie… Where’s Sadie

Even now, he couldn’t believe what had transpired.
The air froze for a moment, the officer’s expression turning uneasy. Under Jacob’s intense gaze, he stammered, “Well… Sadie, she ran away. We’re still tracking her.”
Jacob’s expression went blank for an instant.
Ran away? Where to?
He bolted upright, blood from his abdomen soaking through the bandage. Ignoring it, he strode toward the door. “I’m going to find her!”
The officer and a security guard nearby immediately moved to stop him. Exchanging a glance, they saw they were about to lose control and cried out in panic, “Captain Stinson! Don’t go after her! Sadie was a plant, a mole deliberately placed beside you!”
Jacob froze mid–motion.
“When Sadie left, she still had our internal communicator. Maybe she forgot in the rush… Anyway, we recorded some intelligence.”
Jacob moved his parched lips. “Give it to me.”
Soon, the communicator was brought before him. After a burst of static, an unfamiliar male voice came through.
“What happened?”
Sadie’s trembling voice sounded, “I was pushed out as a hostage. I was so scared… I pushed Jacob out to take the blow. The courthouse will never forgive me!”
Chapter 10
“You idiot! The boss arranged so much to get you close to Jacob. You’re such a useless failure!”
“What could I do!? I told you I can’t be a diplomatic envoy at all!“.
“How else can you get close to Jacob without being a diplomatic envoy!?”
“Then what about that woman Allison?”
“What do you know? She’s… Wait, what are you carrying? You fool!”
“Screech-” After a piercing sound, the voices on the channel abruptly ceased. The silence was so profound you could hear a pin drop.
With a “bang“, Jacob’s arm dropped, and the communicator fell to the ground with a crisp clatter.
“Um… Captain, don’t be upset…”
He couldn’t hear what the others were saying, memories flooded back, and he realized how foolish he’d been!
He suddenly recalled wanting to punish Allison–it was Sadie who’d casually mentioned that island…
Jacob snapped to attention and barked: “Investigate every detail about Sadie and that vessel! And before… I need to know everything about her!”
The security guard nodded blankly and quickly arranged it.
Just then, his phone rang; he answered it, his expression shifted, then he looked up sharply at Jacob.
“Sir! Sadie’s been caught!“.
