Chapter 7
The plump woman in front of me was screeching, her finger pointed angrily at my nose.N
A cold glint flashed in my eyes. I recognized these women–wives of a few business partners.N
They were infamous for having poor taste and no brains, which explained why they were associating with Maureen.
Especially this woman, Mrs. Rhodes, who was the most involved with Demi’s mother.
They all believed that Bennett held the real power in the Wilson Holdings.
In the years I had been abroad recovering, I had kept a low profile.
Moreover, their husbands feared offending people, so they rarely took them to social events, giving Maureen’s the perfect opportunity to ingratiate herself with them.&
It seemed they hadn’t recognized me. After all, this “Mrs. Wilson” was wearing several pieces of jewelry I had bought at an auction abroad.
Maureen glared at me, seething with anger.
…N
Tsk. How dare this woman collude with these low–class women?
Frances’s own mother was on the verge of death abroad. Could a single woman really manage a company? Of course not–it was all thanks to Bennett.
But recently, Bennett had stopped visiting her.
Ever since she had Demi, she’d grown older and less refined, unable to compare to the pampered women of their circle.N
She’d driven away several girls lately, but this one was smart. She knew how to please children.
But she had pleased the wrong one.N
…A
Around us, more and more people gathered, egged on by the shouts of the women.N
A few other ladies even joined in, eager to scold me, given that their husbands had all affairs outside the marriage.
I couldn’t suppress the thick sarcasm in my eyes.
People around us started pointing and criticizing Frances and me.N
“Look at this mistress, so shameless!”
“Bringing her illegitimate child, parading in front of the rightful wife?”
“Don’t worry, Mrs. Wilson, I’ll take care of her for you today!“N
With that, they rolled up their sleeves, ready to storm towards me.N “What are you doing?”
The manager of the store, hearing the commotion, quickly rushed over.N
The ladies‘ eyes lit up as they saw him. “Manager Pearson, this woman stole something. You should blacklist her. This place is full of luxury goods, and she’s not even worth the price of a single item!“N
They began to spout accusations, eager to get me thrown out.N
“Oh, and Manager Pearson, can you give us a few VIP cards? Since we’re all such close friends with Mrs. Wilson…”
However, Manager Pearson didn’t even entertain their words. He looked at me with pale face.N
Asking him to blacklist the owner of the company? He was clearly too scared to risk his life.N
Just then, Maureen’s phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and intentionally put it on speakerphone.N
“Bennett, I’m at the mall! But someone’s stolen my things…”
However, Bennett on the other end wasn’t listening to her. He was frantic, his voice sharp and panicked. “How much did your mother take? Rachel found out!“&
“Didn’t I tell you to stop?!”
“Now Rachel has alerted the police to investigate the missing finances at home! The staff has been taken away!”
Maureen hastily hung up, but it was too late. A few of the wealthy ladies had already heard Bennett’s frantic words.!! “Mrs. Wilson, what’s going on?“}}
“Aren’t you Rachel?” they asked, recognizing the name but not knowing her face.N
Manager Pearson looked at me, his eyes filled with panic. “Chairwoman, this is my fault for not being careful!”
As soon as he spoke, the other women went silent.
The previously most arrogant of them, Mrs. Rhodes, grabbed Manager Pearson by the collar. “What did you just call her?” They knew all too well that the owner of this mall was the person who held the power in the Wilson Holdings.
