Chapter 12
Claire walked over. It’s them. This case for the consultation is pretty unusual. Our research group is being formed specifically because of cases like this.
“Professor Wilcourt and Professor Sommers are our technical support. You’ve taken pharmacology as an elective, but I’m sure you’ve never studied clinical medicine. If you run into anything you don’t understand during research, just ask Professor Wilcourt directly”
“That’s amazing.” Josie lit up, looking like she’d just hit the jackpot. “Feels like I just got myself two extra mentors. Total win!”
Delilah let out a small laugh. “Don’t get ahead of yourself. My team’s short on people, and you just happened to major in cytology.
“That’s the only reason I made an exception for you. But if you can’t pass my assessment, I’m still not signing off your internship file”
“Il pass for sure.” Josie sounded completely certain of her choice.
Delilah stood up and walked off. “Let’s go. I’ll show you our lab.”
Claire
grabbed her documents and followed. Josie was about to leave too when Sean yanked her sleeve.
Sean warned, “Remember what you said. If you dare betray Professor Delilah, I’ve got plenty of ways to make sure you won’t survive in this field.
“Only make sure I can’t survive in this field?” Josie pulled her sleeve back with a smirk. “If someone betrays me, I’ll make sure they wish they were dead.”
Sean froze, staring at the girl running off, and suddenly burst out laughing. He felt like he’d just uncovered a massive secret.
The next day, Josie returned to campus
As soon as she stepped into her dorm, Adeline grabbed her, eager to spill the latest gossip. “Did you have a fight with Aiden and the others? The school forum’s blowing up, saying you’re quitting Professor Lawson’s team.”
Josie shook her head. “No fight. But quitting the team? That’s true.”
“What?” Adeline looked at her like she’d lost her mind. “People would kill to get into Professor Lawson’s team, and you’re just walking away like it’s nothing? What’s going on in that head of yours?”
Josie smiled but didn’t explain. “Don’t you guys have class soon? If you don’t leave now, you’ll be late.
“You’ve got class too. Adeline stuffed her books into her bag and dragged Josie toward the door. “Talk on the way.
Josie pulled her hand free. Im not attending the courses I picked before. I switched majors.”
So no, Josie didn’t have class.
“What?” Adeline’s jaw almost hit the floor. “You’re a senior. Who switches majors in their senior year? Do you not want to graduate?”
“I do.” Josie patted her backpack. “That’s why I’m self–studying. I’ll just take the final exams at the end of the semester.”
As long as I passed the exams, I’d earn the credits. It wouldn’t affect my graduation, Josie thought
Seeing the time, Adeline couldn’t press further. She just sighed in awe. “Warrior. You’ve got guts, Josie.”
After the dorm emptied out. Josie pulled out a stack of acupuncture textbooks.
Claire had recommended them, from beginner guides to advanced materials. Afraid she wouldn’t understand, Claire had even sent her Delilali’s recorded lectures for free
Josie was so touched she almost cried Back when she first started learning David’s lectures, she often got confused. She’d tried to find video replays but came up empty–handed.
When she asked David in private, Josie got a scolding. His exact words were: “Do you know how valuable my lectures are? You think you can just watch them whenever you want?
“You don’t pay attention in class, and now you want free videos afterwards! Who do you think you are? If you really want to learn, go pay for it. Only when you spend money will you know how to value it.”

David even claimed it was for their own good. Thinking back, Josie felt like an idiot for believing that nonsense.
Javid di
Now Josie realized David didn’t care about teaching at all. Everything he did was for money.
David had even lost the basic decency of a teacher, let alone care about answering students‘ questions sincerely.
Right after class, Adeline was cornered by Vincent. “Did Josie come back today? I didn’t see her in class.”
Adeline replied. “She’s back. She said she switched majors, so she’s not attending any of the courses she chose before.”
Adeline looked puzzled and asked, “You’re close to her. Didn’t she tell you? Or did something happen between you two? Otherwise, why would she suddenly quit Professor Lawson’s team and switch majors?”
Vincent clenched his fists, trying to hold back his anger. “What exactly did she tell you?”
“She said the rumors on the forum are true. She really left Professor Lawson’s team and changed her major, Adeline glanced at him, het checks flushing. “You two didn’t have a falling out, did you?”
Vincent pressed his lips into a thin line and shook his head. “No. Don’t overthink it. Do you know what major she switched to?”
“Thave no idea. She didn’t say.” Adeline shrugged. “If you’re curious, just ask her yourself. She’s in the dorm right now.”
Hearing this, Vincent exhaled a slow breath. He said softly, “Could you tell her to come down? We’ll wait for her downstairs”
After making plans with Adeline, Vincent sent a message to the group chat. [Josie’s back.]
Adeline hurried back to the dorm. Josie, Vincent and the others are looking for you. They’re downstairs right now. Be honest with me, what’s going on? They look seriously pissed.
“Maybe they’re mad because I switched majors without telling anyone.” Josie stood up. “Ill go down and explain.”
Adeline blocked her way. “Why did you switch majors, Josie? You loved Professor Lawson’s classes.
“You were more focused than anyone else and ranked first in the entire year for this major. Is it because of that plagiarism scandal?”
“Don’t guess.” Josie didn’t want to explain. “I got bored. I wanted to learn something new. Why does there need to be a reason?”
With that, Josie slipped past Adeline and headed downstairs. In front of the girls‘ dorm, Vincent, Jaden, and Natalie were waiting.
When Josie saw Natalie, her steps s slowed for a second. She really didn’t want to deal with her. That fake sweet act Natalie put on
suffocating.
But compared to everything she’d been through in her past life, putting up with some fake niceties seemed trivial now.
Josie walked straight up to them “Vincent Oldham, Jaden Monroe, Natalie Kinberg, you wanted to see me?”
Vincent froze. He’d known Josie for years, and she’d always called him “Vincent.”

This was the first time she’d used his full name. It had only been two days since they last met, but something about her felt different.
“I heard you’re quiting the team and changing your major?” Jaden, never one for subtlety, immediately confronted her. “Josie, you’ve got some nerve. Quitting the team on a whim, changing your major just like that–did you ever think about asking how we feel about it?”
Josie found his words ridiculous. She looked at Jaden, her tone calm. “Whether I quit the team or switch majors, it’s my choice. Why would I need to ask for your opinion?”
“You-“Jaden was stunned into silence. Josie had always been the obedient type, never once talking back to him like this
Even when she’d turned down his confession, Josie had been so cautious, afraid of upsetting him, with that sweet smile on her face that made it impossible to stay mad at her.
But now, Josie was standing here with a cold, mocking look, as if they were just nosy strangers meddling in her business
Josir, how could you talk to them like that?” Natalie chimed in, her voice soft and sugary “They’re just worried about you. “They’re afraid someone’s tricked you into giving up a bright future. That’s why they rushed over to talk you out of it. Why can’t you see

Jaden shot Natalie a grateful look, then turned back to Josie with a face full of anger. “Don’t be ungrateful, Josie.
