If I’d been sober, I would’ve made up some excuse.
But right now, my brain was total mush and I couldn’t think straight.
‘Earlier when you were drinking, you said you broke up with your boyfriend, right?”
‘He cheated and you caught him kissing some other girl.”

After a moment of heated passion, he pulled back, breathing hard.
“Alright, let me walk you upstairs.”

I wiped off my smudged lipstick, silently noting how he just kissed and ran.
But I didn’t have the nerve to say the rest out loud.
He walked me to my door. Before leaving, he tilted my chin up and whispered in my ear: “We’ll take this
slow.”
Next morning, I thought it had all been a dream.
But the breakfast that showed up right on time, with his note on the delivery app saying “Have some soup.
t’s good for your stomach,” made me realize last night was very real.
