Chapter 1
Chapter 1
“Ms. Sven, congratulations on your recovery. You’ll be discharged in just a few days,” the director of the rehabilitation center said, presenting me with a bouquet of flowers.
I smiled and picked up my phone to share the good news with my family.
But my attention was suddenly caught by a “People You May Know” notification. It was my daughter’s classmate’s mother.
I’d always kept my identity private at my daughter’s school for her safety, so it was strange that the algorithm had connected us.
Curious, I tapped on her profile and saw a video.
Today was my daughter’s eighteenth birthday.
The party venue and the birthday girl’s outfit in the video looked strangely familiar. Wait-that was lefinitely my house.
Even more shocking, the million-dollar custom gown I’d commissioned for my daughter was being worn by
omeone else entirely.
frowned. That dress had been personally designed with my input as a coming-of-age gift for my daughter. The gold threading and pearls alone were worth hundreds of thousands.
A dark look crossed my face as I immediately called our housekeeper, Ms. Davis.
Ms. Sven, your daughter is having a birthday party with her friends right now!”
‘She loves all the gifts you sent home!”
‘She’s eating birthday cake with her classmates and said she’ll call you back later.”
After hanging up, something felt seriously wrong. Was I overthinking this?
I couldn’t help but message the classmate’s mother directly, but her response was delayed and evasive.
“You know how it is-we parents try not to get too involved in the kids’ stuff,” she replied vaguely, clearly
uncomfortable.
Soon after, when I refreshed her page, I discovered she’d blocked me.
Chapter 1
“Hello, Mr. White? This is Hannah Sven’s mother.”
“I wanted to ask about my daughter recently…”
But the voice that answered was impatient: “So you’re Hannah’s mom? Took you long enough to call.”
“I’m her new homeroom teacher. Mr. White resigned months ago.”
Guilt washed over me. I’d been receiving treatment abroad for two years, and I hadn’t even known my
daughter’s teacher had changed.
But what she said next made my blood run cold.
Ma’am, as the Sven family’s housekeeper, you should be grateful Ms. Sven allows your daughter Hannah to attend our private school at all.”
And your ungrateful daughter keeps skipping classes!”
You haven’t paid this semester’s tuition yet. Take care of it immediately.”
A housekeeper’s kid will never compare to the real heiress anyway!”
With that, she hung up dismissively.
nearly crushed my phone in my grip. Since when had I become a housekeeper?
And who was this so-called “real heiress”?
laughed bitterly and immediately booked a flight home.
needed to see exactly what the hell was happening in my own house.
