Chapter 25
Mark grew angry just thinking about that woman’s words.
Still staring at the ceiling, he felt genuinely happy that his father was awake again. And for once, he wanted to share his feelings with
Amanda
His young, delicate voice trembled with rage.
“It’s Miranda. She’s liked Dad for a long time. Every time he’s home, she comes over looking for him. I really hate her. If her, I’ll run away from home
“After Dad got hurt, she still kept coming by. That day. she suddenly showed up at the cottage to see me…”
When he got to this part, Mark’s eyes turned red. His small body curled up tightly, a posture full of unease.
Amanda quickly pulled him into her arms, gently patting his back, heart aching for him.

His words sparked a light in her mind–if her son was going to run away, maybe she could take him with her when she fled.
But what that woman had said must’ve been vicious–only that could’ve upset her son so much.
“You don’t need to hear the rest,” Mark mumbled. “It’s ugly really ugly.”
“Sweetheart
“I’m tired. I want to sleep. Mark turned his back to her, shutting her out.
Amanda looked at her son’s tiny frame, and her heart twisted in pain. He was only five years old–why did he have to carry such a burden! She didn’t feel worthy of being his mother.
“Baby, I’ll get justice for you. From now on, as long as I’m here, no one will ever hurt you again.“”
The anger radiating off Amanda carried a chilling edge. Mark didn’t understand it, but he could feel the intense hatred brewing inside her
He pressed his lips together, but said nothing.
Just then, her phone buzzed on the table. She’d set a special ringtone for Cindy, Picking it up, she saw the message:
Cindy (Amanda Brad’s about to turn Cindale upside down looking for you. Are you sure you want to give up that kind of money? It’s just too tempting.]
Amanda thought about Benjamin’s current condition and replied
Amanda Tell him. Tomorrow at 3 PM, bring your makeup kit and wait for me at the building.]
Cindy [Ahhh, got it, Rich Lady. I handle Brad. Did you go through the materials Debbie gave you? Have you started on the designs? Amanda felt a headache coming on. She hated having too many things to juggle.
I look at them!)
Then she set her phone aside again
“Can you tell me about my mom?” Mark’s voice came quietly. “You said she’d come back. Do you know her?”

But he was conflicted–he desperately wanted to know, but couldn’t bring himself to ask.
“Dad’s awake now. When my eyes are better, I want to go see her. I don’t blame her for leaving me. If she had stayed here with Dad, she’d be in danger. Leaving was the right thing.”
Amanda couldn’t stop her tears–they flowed freely, uncontrollably,
She wiped them away quickly and held his little hand tightly, her voice as gentle as a breeze.
“Sweetheart, your mom never abandoned you. She’s been thinking about you every single day these past years. Just wait a little longer, Once she’s finished what she needs to do, she’ll come and take you with her.”
Mark couldn’t help but ask, “What is Mom trying to do?
Amanda thought of the Wilson family… of that bastard Barry. Danger surrounded her everywhere.
“Sweetheart, your mom is doing what she has to do. She’ll be back soon, I promise.” She gently patted his back, her heart full of guilt.
Sweetheart, once your eyes heal, Mom will tell you the truth,
Mark asked no more. The more you know, the more you want.
Only after hearing the steady rhythm of his breathing did Amanda finally relax
She thought of the First Madam requesting to see her, and a cold gleam flashed in her eyes.
Carefully turning over, she picked up her phone and sent out a message. Whether or not a good show would unfold–she’d find out soon enough.
Once the message was sent,
sent, she closed her eyes to rest.
If her guess was right, by around 11:30 tonight, the show would begin.
