Chapter 2

I sold all my jewelry just to afford my father’s burial.

Back home, I rushed into the study.

Trust documents were piled high on the desk.

Cayman Islands dual structure, irrevocable authorization, sole administrator….

What I’d thought was a shield for our future life turned out to be a cage.

For five years of marriage, Vincent always said: “Jade, leave the professional stuff to me. Just enjoy life.”

I did enjoy my life.

But he just took everything from me.

I had to find a loophole.

The next day, I went to the top floor of Whitman Corp.

I pushed open the CEO office door.

A strong scent of cedar cologne hit me-Vincent’s signature scent.

The office had been completely renovated.

My father’s sofa, chairs, and tables that he’d used for years were all gone.

In their place was the latest season’s imported Molteni&C furniture.

Several workers were hauling out trash.

In the dumpster, I spotted a familiar picture frame.

My family portrait-all three of us.

I rushed over, digging the frame out of the broken glass, cutting my fingertips.

“What are you doing here?”

Vincent walked out, coffee in hand.

Chapter 2

“This was my dad’s office!”

Vincent took a sip of his coffee. “Technically, it’s the Whitman Corp CEO’s office. And I’m the current CEO.”

He pointed at the trash pile.

“Inefficient nostalgia is a major taboo in corporate management.”

He walked over, snatched the family photo from my hands, tore it in half, and tossed it back in the trash.

“These are all non-performing assets that need immediate divestiture.”

My heart felt like it was being crushed.

He didn’t just want the money-he wanted to erase every trace of my father’s existence.

“Vincent Sterling, you ungrateful bastard! If it wasn’t for my dad-”

“Shut up!”

Vincent flew into a rage, contempt flashing in his eyes.

“I used my expertise to multiply the Whitman assets by ten. What I’m taking is just my rightful performance fee.”

“ESTATE TAX OPTIMIZATION PLAN-sign it.”

After speaking, he threw a stack of documents onto the table in front of me.

I picked them up and flipped through quickly, but the more I read, the more wrong it seemed-

He was trying to transfer all of Whitman Corp’s core equity to his offshore shell companies!

“I won’t sign.”

Vincent didn’t get angry.

He simply pulled out an ultrasound from his pocket.

Looking at that blurry image, his expression actually softened for a moment.

“Luna’s second baby is still a boy,”

He looked up at me, his gaze ice-cold.

“Idiot, do you have any idea how much this plan saves in taxes? Nine figures!”

Chapter 2

“My sons need the best possible future!”

He was dressing up embezzlement as professionalism.

Defining my resistance as incompetence.

“Vincent, you make me sick.”

“Sick?”

Vincent burst into laughter.

“Capital markets only care about results.” He stepped closer. “Sign it.”

I grabbed the documents and hurled them at his face.

“GET OUT!”

Papers scattered across the floor.

Vincent let out a cold smile, and casually straightened his tie.

“You’ll regret this, Jade. Emotional decision-making comes with the steepest price tag.”

He turned around and pressed the intercom.

‘Security, please escort Ms. Whitman out. Also, cancel her keycard access.”
