Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Peter was the golden boy next door-good looks, great personality, top grades.

Naturally, half the girls on campus had a crush on him… myself included.

staked out the campus basketball court for a whole month-yeah, literally sat there pretending to “study” very afternoon-just to finally get his number.

Once we were “friends” on Instagram, I was all over it.

‘d DM him, ask him to grab dinner, join me for a study session, go see a movie… But he rarely replied.

Out of ten messages, I was lucky to get one back. Sometimes he wouldn’t even bother.

till, I was ridiculously happy.

Come on-it’s Peter. The campus heartthrob. The untouchable, too-cool-to-care type.

ust having him in my contacts felt like winning the lottery. I never dared to expect more.

had his class schedule saved as my phone wallpaper.

‘d grab seats for him in lectures right on time-if it was an 8 a.m. class, I’d even bring him breakfast.

When he needed data for his modeling project, I just bought it online with my own money and sent it over,

lo questions asked. He never had to lift a finger.

My roommate once told me, “Girl, you’re acting like a simp, and simps end up with nothing.”

fired right back, full-on love-brain mode: “Wrong. Simps end up with everything.”

This chasing game went on all the way until graduation-still no results.

I thought my little love story was just going to fade out.

Then, six months later, BOOM-a surprise.

Peter stayed in the city, Got himself a job.

He texted me first-invited me to dinner.

I was over the moon.

Spent the whole afternoon picking the perfect dress, got dolled up, and went to see him.

The date went great, the vibes were perfect… and he said he wanted to take things further with me.

When I got home, I was so giddy I marked the date on my calendar, rolled around my bed like a teenager,

Soon after, we were officially together.

Peter moved out of his apartment way out in the suburbs and into my downtown place,

But now… thinking about all this, my chest just feels cold.

Love had blinded me.

didn’t realize until now-Peter never wanted me. He wanted what I could offer.

The once untouchable “golden boy” had stepped into the real world, felt the weight of reality, and decided to settle for the girl who’d chased him for two years-because I made life easier for him.

He’d talk about our future, about marriage, looking me dead in the eye.

Now I see it for what it was-just him running the numbers.

was nothing but a stepping stone-a stable base for him to find his footing in the city-while he kept his ittle on-again-off-again thing with his ex alive in the background, maybe even planning to bring her into my

home one day.

Stella Summers, was a damn joke.

cranked up the volume on my headphones, let the breathy, fake sweet noises fill my ears, curled up in bed dutching my old stuffed puppy.

Tears rolled down my face, soaking into the puppy’s fur.

I wiped it off carefully… then hugged it tighter.
