Chapter 5
The next morning, I called a realtor and had the place listed on Zillow.
I’d thought about it all night, and decided that once this circus was over, I was moving out.
This whole apartment reeked of Rachel-every corner made my stomach turn.
But I didn’t let it show.
Instead, I ordered a feast of takeout and waited for Peter and Rachel to come out for dinner.
Peter came out first, clearly surprised to see me suddenly treating them to takeout.
I gave him a sweet smile.
“I thought about it… I shouldn’t let that little thing with Rachel ruin what we had.”
“She’s just nuts-there’s no way you two have a future.”
“The one marrying you will be me, so I really have no reason to be mad, right?”
Half true, half false-just enough logic to sound convincing, and exactly the kind of thing I’d say. His
shoulders relaxed, and he even reached for my hand, looking at me with those fake loving eyes.
‘Stella, you have nothing to worry about.”
‘Rachel’s like a little sister to me, nothing more. I would never betray what we have.”
!pouted.
Fine, as long as she doesn’t cross the line, I’m not gonna stoop to fighting with a lunatic.”
His voice was earnest.
“Whatever you say, Stella.”
“Meeting you was the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
I told him to sit and start eating, then headed to the kitchen “to get plates.”
Once I was alone, I stopped the voice recording on my phone and smiled-coldly.

I knew how to use it.
What’s the point of posting the house deed and my original design files online to clear my name right away?
Better to lift them up high, let them bask in the glow of likes and followers, then strike-hard-so they crash from the highest peak straight to the bottom.
When I came back out, I had my smile back on.
“By the way, I’m doing a deep clean this afternoon.”
‘Rachel’s made such a mess in here I can’t stand it.”
‘Why don’t you take her out for a while? I’ll have someone come clean.”
[ Venmo’d him $80.
‘Pick me up some cream puffs while you’re at the mall.”
‘I’ve been craving them since I got back from my trip.”
Peter instantly accepted the payment and agreed.
When Rachel woke up and barely got two bites in, Peter hurried her out the door so she wouldn’t “get in the
way” of my cleaning.
He probably thought he’d smoothed things over-two women in his life, getting along while he enjoyed his
ɔerfect little harem fantasy.
What he didn’t know was that I’d called in a security tech guy to install micro-cameras in every single
room-360-degree coverage, no blind spots.
That night, I bit into my favorite cream puff and felt damn good.
The trap was set. All I had to do was wait for the prey to walk in.
Before heading to my room, I told them I’d be watching Netflix with my headphones on, so they shouldn’t bother me-making it very clear I “wouldn’t hear anything.”
Sure enough, not long after, I saw on my phone that Rachel had gone into Peter’s room.
She was wearing one of my silk camisoles, low-cut and barely covering anything, closing his bedroom door with her back against it, looking at him like a predator sizing up a meal.
