“Let’s not bring up the past,” Ethan said calmly. “Let’s just focus on what happened today.”
But Stella wasn’t letting it go. She turned to Jimmy. “Why did you hit the principal?”
Jimmy had never told anyone–not even Blondie–what had happened that day. He didn’t like to think about it.
But since Stella was asking, he couldn’t keep it in.
“I saw the principal beat a cat to death.”
That day, after class, he’d accidentally left his phone in the classroom. He was in a rush to make it to his part–time job. By the time his first shift ended, it was already nine at night. He ran back to school to get his phone.
Just as he was about to leave again, he heard a cat screeching in pain in a dim corner of the building.
He followed the sound–and saw a shadow kicking a cat over and over again.
He immediately turned on his flashlight. The cat was lying in a pool of blood, tongue hanging out. It was already dead.
Furious, Jimmy didn’t even stop to check who it was. He stuffed his phone into his pocket and punched the man–twice.
It was only afterward that he realized it had been the principal.
But he didn’t regret it.
There were a lot of stray cats around Trinity High. Sometimes Jimmy would leave food in the spots where they liked to hang out.
He never got close to them.
Because he was severely allergic to cat fur.
Even a little contact made it hard for him to breathe. When he was a kid, he’d almost died from an allergic reaction.

Chapter 109 A Cat’s Cry
But he still liked cats–because Stella loved them.
Before Jimmy was born, Stella had a Devon Rex cat. She adored it.
That cat was also how the family discovered Jimmy’s allergy.
Once he came along, the cat had to go.

So Stella bought a separate house just to raise the cat. She’d go feed it every day, and the moment she got back, she’d shower and change clothes to keep the fur away from Jimmy.
But not long after their parents passed away, the cat died too–from heart disease.
After that, Stella never kept cats again.
Still, whenever she saw a stray near the villa, she always stopped to feed it.
Whenever Jimmy saw a cat, he’d think of Stella. And if someone hurt a cat–he just wanted to
kill them.
The principal’s face twisted into a frown. “That’s complete nonsense! You’re lying without even trying to make it believable! I’m a respected principal with a good life and career–why the hell would I abuse a cat?”
He went on indignantly, “That day, I just ran into you at school. I told you to focus on your studies and stop skipping evening classes. You didn’t like that, so you hit me!”
He had no intention of confessing without hard evidence.
That was the story he told everyone–and people believed it.
After all, Jimmy had a reputation: a violent delinquent.
The principal’s sister jumped in to back him up. “My brother has always been a kind man! This is slander! And even if he did kill a cat–so what? It’s just an animal!”
Stella’s pretty face turned ice–cold. She glared at the woman. “Shut your mouth.”
She was seconds away from cursing.
The principal’s sister shrank under Stella’s stare, chilled to the bone without knowing why.
Jimmy knew it sounded unbelievable.
He was a problem student. And saying he beat someone up over a cat didn’t help his case.

But he didn’t care who believed him.
He turned to Stella. “Do you believe me?”
Stella nodded. “I believe you.”

She remembered how allergic her little brother was to cat fur. When they were kids, he never dared approach when she fed strays.
But he’d always bring more food from home and say, from a distance, “Give it all to the cats. I’m full.”
He’d say
he was full–then watch them eat and drool from afar.
Ethan rotated the rosary on his wrist and said, “I believe you too.”
The principal’s sister snorted, “Keep babying him, why don’t you. One day he’ll end up a murderer and you’ll all be crying in jail! Kids like that are useless to society anyway!”
Stella’s hand itched to slap her. “Who says someone with bad grades is useless to society?”
There were far better ways to measure a person.
Ethan could tell his sister was about to explode. He said coolly, “Don’t waste your breath. The cops are here.”
The principal’s eyes widened. “Police? What for? Killing a cat is illegal now?”
Ethan stared down at him with a cold expression. “That’s not the only crime you’ve committed. Embezzlement. Bribery. Abuse of power. The list goes on.”
The principal’s face went pale. “You…”
Tina strode into the room in a sharp suit, flanked by police officers and a few lawyers holding briefcases.
She gave Stella a pat on the shoulder. “You guys can head home. Leave the rest to me.”
