Chapter 12
“Kim, what’s happening?
Seems everyone’s forgotten you.”
Peter slumped over the steering wheel, looking ten years older.
Falling in love takes an instant.
Forgetting takes a lifetime!
He knew he’d never forget Kim.
“Kim, we promised to meet at the Alpine Mountain Range.”
“Pity we didn’t meet there, but no matter. I’ll take you now.”
Biting cold pierced the air at the Alps’ base.
Peter seemed numb to it, clutching his ring as he trudged onward.
He’d barely started when someone stopped him.
“Sir, we’ve detected avalanche risks these days. Don’t go up.”
They’d maintained order here for days, evacuating crowds. Only occasional unaware tourists came.
He assumed Peter was another tourist who’d leave after warning.
Instead, Peter just said “Got it” and kept climbing toward the peak.
Icy winds howled around him, unnoticed.
Only one voice echoed in his mind.
“Peter, I’m waiting atop the Alps. You must come!”
Peter softly kissed the ring. “Kim, wait for me.”
Snow fell thicker now. Flakes blanketed him, wrapping him into a snowman.
He walked without food or water for three days and nights, arriving at their meeting spot only at dawn on the fourth day.
The snow had ceased. The first morning light pierced the clouds, cascading down the Alpine Mountain Range to bathe the peaks in gold, breathing life into every snowflake.
Cradling the ring in his palms with utmost care, he whispered in a prayer-like voice:
“Kim, look! Golden Mountain Sunrise… We made it.”
As the words fell, a thunderous roar echoed behind him. A tidal wave of snow surged forth, burying him beneath the
avalanche in an instant.
