Chapter 9
Nathan turned and glanced at me. His face was tense, and his voice firm.
“I told you when you left for abroad that I never saw you as more than a sister.
“Have I contacted you once si
“Have I contacted you once since you came back? You used your ‘sister‘ title to get close to me, took sketchy photos, and spread lies online.
“Genevieve, even if Mom and Dad came here in person, I’m not letting this slide!”
The more he spoke, the angrier he got. Seeing me stand there like some lifeless puppet, he raised his voice and yelled, “What? Are you just going to stand there and watch me die from anger?”
Like I was caught doing something wrong, I rushed to his side. The moment I got close, he grabbed my hand.
“In that split second when I met Genevieve’s eyes, I saw a lot in her gaze- anger, surprise, but above all, defeat.”
“Let me say this one last time–I’m married. Stop with your delusions. Do you seriously think you could ever compete with her?”
Before she could break down, Davin came in and led her out.
Nathan pulled me into bed with him, wrapping my arms around him like I was cradling a child.
He sighed deeply against my chest. “I didn’t call you back because I didn’t want you to see her and get upset. I even prepared a voice recorder to clarify things if needed. But you just had to walk in right when it was

“We just faced it head–on. Can you finally stop thinking I’m a scumbag?”
It all happened so fast that I barely had time to process it. All the pent–up emotions inside me vanished in an instant.
I honestly didn’t know how to deal with how relaxed things felt in that moment, so all I could do was ask dumbly, “What about you driving that fancy car to the airport to meet her?”
Nathan gritted his teeth, pinched my waist softly, and said through clenched teeth, “How did I end up with such a stubborn wife?”
I fell silent.
He rolled his eyes but quickly softened, nuzzling up like a spoiled kid. “I’ll tell you everything later. Right now, I need a kiss to comfort me!”
“A few days later, the news broke. Genevieve’s affairs with a director and her wild escapades abroad all came to light.”
Her glamorous public image crashed hard.
There were still a few people speaking up in her defense. “What a pity. Doesn’t Mr. Powell have powerful connections? Why doesn’t he help her
out?”
But one of the top replies shut that down hard. “Hasn’t she leached
enough off Nathan already? After everything that just happened, do you still want to call him her boyfriend? That whole mess is ancient history. If you’re so curious, why don’t you go find out who Nathan’s wife actually is and how much he dotes on her? Honestly, sometimes it’s exhausting dealing with people who don’t use their brains.”
Not that anyone had to investigate anything–just a month later, Nathan announced our marriage himself.

“He had only been home resting for a week after being discharged from the hospital when he couldn’t wait to whisk me away to the flower fields in Houston.”
The moment we arrived, I was surrounded by blooms–vibrant flowers, soft lights, music, and every little detail set up exactly to my taste.
At some point, the man beside me quietly slipped away.
Then, he came back carrying a huge bouquet of roses and, right in front of everyone, got down on one knee.
“Back during New Year’s, you told me you would grant any wish I made for my birthday this year. Well, this is it. I want us to be official. Will you marry me?”
