“Where’s the sale and purchase agreement then?”
When I confronted Davin, he hesitated for a long time. His lips were trembling, and his face turned red. Finally, he slumped against the wall like he had lost all his strength.
“I really can’t tell you. You would have to hear it from Mr. Powell himself… But Ms. Joyner, you have to believe me—he cares about you way more than you think.
“The moment the stuff about Genevieve came out, he had me handle it. Those posts only gained popularity because we were all overwhelmed at the time. Who knew she would sneak around in the middle of the night?
“Mr. Powell has already had her blacklisted across the entire industry. She’s going to pay for what she did. He said he’s cutting ties with her for good. Not even his parents could talk him out of it.”
“I was getting more confused the more he talked. I wasn’t here to settle things or demand an explanation, but now that it was brought up, I did want to know whether I had been overthinking everything that had been bothering me for the past half month. But all I got were more vague

Then, Nathan suddenly reached out and wrapped his arms tightly around my waist.
He pulled me closer, burying his head against me. “Adeline… I swear to God, I hate you so much. How can anyone be as heartless as you…”
“I couldn’t say a word because I felt the warmth of his tears soaking into my skin.”
“You accused me of cheating and said I didn’t love you. How could you treat me like that? Other wives defend their husbands when people spread lies. But you? You handed down a death sentence and ran away. Don’t you think that hurts? You think I’m not devastated? I hate you…”

His voice cracked, and then he broke down crying like a child.
“Aren’t you going to hug me? Why won’t you hug me? Do I really have to die for you to—”
