Chapter 70
Alex walked into the kitchen, his movements slow, controlled.
He grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge, twisting the cap off in one fluid motion. His throat was dry. His body tense. He was only in his boxers.
He needed a shower.
Needed to wash everything off-everything, the weight of everything that had just happened.
Alex didn’t plan for any of this to happen, well.. it happened, and there’s nothing he could have done about it.
Zoe is still his girlfriend and it was their thing to play games with who they have sex with.
Except, everything that happened today wasn’t a game to him….
Behind him, Zoe strolled in, her bare feet padding softly against the tiled floor. She had put on her dress.
She was still smirking.
Of course she was.
Everything was a game to her.
“Well, bravo to me,” she mused, hopping onto the counter, her legs swinging as she watched him take a sip of water. “That was quite the performance, don’t you think?”
Alex didn’t answer.
He didn’t have the energy.
Zoe tilted her head, studying him. “Considering you haven’t touched me in weeks,” she mused, “I’d say this was a success. I figured you wouldn’t fuck me unless she was here. Since she’s the one your dick stands for these days ..And guess what?” She grinned. “I was right.”
Alex exhaled through his nose, setting the bottle down.
He stares at Zoe, he used to enjoy these games of theirs, talking like this, playing like this…but now…
Zoe laughed. “You really are fascinated by that girl.”
His fingers curled slightly against the counter.
He didn’t deny it.
Didn’t agree either.
Zoe leaned forward, her voice dropping, laced with amusement. “She was crushed, hurt that you were fucking me” Zoe laughs.” Me your own girlfriend… I didn’t know whether to laugh or wrap my hands around her throat and squeeze until there was nothing left of her.”
Alex hummed, noncommittal.
Zoe was always like this. Cruel. Possessive.
She liked to see people break.

It amused her.
It should have amused him too. It used to…
But it didn’t.
Zoe narrowed her eyes. “Did it hurt to see her cry?”
Alex didn’t answer.
Because it did
But it didn’t matter.
Mia was out of his life now.
That was the point.
Everything that happened tonight had served its purpose.
Something he couldn’t have the balls to do. Zoe showed up and did what he should have done.
That’s why he went along with it.
Even though it hurt… it was for the best
She would look the other way if she sees him.
And in time-
In time, he’ll finally get over these shit feelings that has taken away his will to act like himself.
And this would be nothing more than a terrible phase.
A phase that came and now it’s gone…
Mia couldn’t bring herself to call a cab.
She didn’t want to sit still. Didn’t want to be trapped in a car, alone with her thoughts, suffocating in the weight of everything that had just happened.
So she walked.
She didn’t know how long.
Didn’t know where she was going.
The morning air was cold against her skin, but she barely felt it. Her legs ached, her feet screamed for relief, but she kept moving.
Because stopping meant feeling.
And she wasn’t ready to feel.
Not yet.
She blinked hard, forcing the tears back, but they came anyway. Hot and endless, sliding down her cheeks as she walked

through the empty streets.
Her vision blurred.
She wiped at her face, but it was useless.
She was breaking.
And there was no stopping it.
By the time she reached a nearby park, her body felt numb.
The city was quiet here. No voices. No cars. Just the soft rustling of trees..
She stood frozen in the wreckage of her own heartbreak.
She found a secluded part of the park, away from anyone that will come to the park this early in the morning…. away from the world.
And then she collapsed onto the grass.
And cried.
She couldn’t stop the tears anymore. It hurts, it hurts so much.
She cried until she couldn’t breathe.
Cried until her body ached, until her throat burned, until her tears ran dry.
Her sobs came in broken gasps, her hands fisting into the dirt like she could ground herself, like she could hold onto something-anything-to keep herself from falling apart completely.
But there was nothing to hold onto.
There never had been.
She had given herself to him. Completely. Stupidly.
Mia did this to herself, Alex had been clear with her right from the beginning. He had told her why he got close to her, why he paid for a date with her… Why he fucked her…
To please Zoe, it was all for his girlfriend.
She stupidly forgot all that and started letting herself hope because of how he looked at her, how he worried for her, how he touched her…
She had let herself believe-hope-that she meant something to him.
That maybe, just maybe, she was more than a game.
More than just something to be used.
She was such a fool, a big fool
But tonight had shattered that illusion.
And now she was here.
Alone.

Empty.
Broken.
In the end she was just a Turner. A toy in the hands of the people who own willowcrest
Her chest heaved as she slowly pulled out her phone.
Alex’s name was still there. Right at the top of her last dialed…
The same name she had stared at so many times before, waiting, hoping, craving any scrap of attention he was willing to give her.
Not anymore.
Her fingers hovered over the screen, shaking.
Then-
She blocks his number.
She pressed it.
Then she deletes it.
And with that-she is ready to forget any of this happened.
In three months the admission list to the universities she applied in will be out.
Mia hopes at least one school accepts her.
She’s ready to forget the existence of this Town.
