Chapter 16
Wilder’s pupils shrank abruptly.
His entire body trembled, and he couldn’t find a single word to defend himself.
Grace let out a chilling laugh.
She laughed until tears fell from her eyes.
She loved Wilder so much–so much that she had nearly died for him two years ago.
She had come that close!
She had given up everything for him, even her life. Could Summer have done that?
Of course not.
Only she, Grace, was worthy of standing beside Wilder. Only she deserved to be called his woman.
She had merely taught Summer a lesson–to make her see clearly who the real Mrs. Hunt should be, who truly belonged at Wilder’s side!
And what did Wilder do?
He killed their child. With his own foot.
The pain in his eyes gave her a twisted satisfaction–even if it broke her too.
He had cast her aside like garbage, but she still couldn’t let go.
Grace cried and laughed like a madwoman, teetering on the edge of a breakdown. Then,
landed on a fruit knife on the table.

Without a second thought, she grabbed it.
“I’ll cut it off. If I cut it off, you’ll never go looking for Summer again.”
“Yes… I’ll do it. Once it’s gone, you’ll be mine–only mine… heh…”
Wilder’s eyes turned blood–red as he stared at the lunatic in front of him.
Before he could muster enough strength to fight back, the door burst open.
Ben stormed in, wrestled Grace to the ground, and knocked the knife from her hand. It clattered to
the floor, landing at Ben’s feet.
Ben masked his expression as he looked up at Wilder with a concerned face.

“You okay, Wilder?”
“She’s completely lost it,” he added coldly. “No idea how she escaped from the hospital. I’ll call someone to take her back–right now.
Wilder had strained his injuries trying to defend himself; he was soaked in sweat, his face pale as a
sheet.
To make sure Grace never escaped again, he ordered her locked in the underground cell.
The air down there was damp and stank of blood.
The women who had once brutalized Summer were still imprisoned there.
When they saw that the new prisoner was Grace, their hopes of release shattered.
Their faces twisted with rage.
“You said you were Mrs. Hunt,” one of them snarled. “You promised to get us out of that hellhole.
And now look at us!”
“Because of you, we’re crippled and mutilated, and you still get to walk in here on two feet? How is that fair?”
Another woman laughed, though her smile was full of malice. “So you’re the one who ruined us.
Tell us, Grace–was it worth it?”
Some had lost arms, some legs. Others had had their tongues ripped out. Their faces were a grotesque mix of pain and fury.
Terrified, Grace backed away, trying to run.
But Ben shoved her back with a cold glare.
He had picked this place for a reason. No way he’d let her escape.
As Grace screamed and scrambled, the others dragged themselves toward her–just as they had
once done to Summer.
“You said Wilder was your man!” one of them shouted. “You swore you’d get us out! Now look at us -look at you!”
They cornered her like wild dogs, fury in their eyes.
“Is this what being Mrs. Hunt gets you? Because if so, we want our pound of flesh.”
Grace trembled violently, completely losing it.

Ben slammed the iron door shut.
Behind it, her screams echoed louder and louder.
Elsewhere, Caleb accompanied Summer to the hospital for a follow–up.
Her leg injury had mostly healed, but she still walked slowly.
Caleb trailed behind her, his mind stuck on the doctor’s words.
“Physically, her leg is fine. But she’s convinced it’s still injured. It’s psychological–she’s
traumatized.”
Summer noticed he hadn’t caught up and looked back in confusion.
Caleb quickly composed himself and gave her a reassuring smile. He hurried forward and took her
hand.
“Anything you’re craving? I gave the housekeeper the day off. I’m cooking lunch today.”
Summer chuckled, her eyes narrowing. “Oh no, should I be worried about going hungry?”
Her smile made his heart feel lighter.
He took her grocery shopping. As he browsed vegetables with serious focus, Summer’s expression slowly faded.
She knew Caleb had gone above and beyond for her.
But some things… she’d have to face alone.
