Chapter 1
A medical dispute broke out at the pack hospital.
A family member of the patient, pack member, swung a knife wildly, and I instinctively moved to push my Alpha mate, Adam, out of
harm’s way.
But instead, he grabbed my hand and positioned me behind his mentee.
The knife plunged into my stomach, killing the child I had just conceived.
“Laura, stop playing the victim. You know full well whether
er that injury means anything or not. You’re a werewolf. What’s a little cut to
you?”
“Carla’s just got a minor scrape; what’s that supposed to mean to her?”
My wolf howled in protest in my mind, but the injury had left me weakened.
To conserve my strength, I kept silent.
Ignoring the knife still lodged in my abdomen, Adam grabbed me and threw me roughly to the ground.
The tearing pain from my wound made me cry out in agony
The blood poured out, soaking my clothes, taking with it the tiny life that had been inside me.
Meanwhile, Adam gently cradled Carla, placing her on the hospital bed.
“Carla, don’t be afraid. I’m here. You won’t be hurt.
Carla had only a shallow scratch on her arm, yet she cried as though her heart were breaking.
“Adam, it hurts so much. What if the wound damages my nerves and I can’t hold a scalpel again?”
T
Adam’s heart ached for her. “Silly girl, I’ll take care of you. I’ll make sure the werewolf who hurt you go to prison.”
John, the lead pack doctor, stood nearby, brow furrowed as he spoke up.
“Alpha, Luna is still carrying your child. The knife stabbed deeply, if we don’t act fast, we might lose both of them.”
Adam shot me a look of disdain.
“She’s faking it. Her stomach’s probably stuffed with cotton and blood bags. She’s been planning this with the troublemaker from the start, trying to fool me I’m not falling for it.”
The fellow doctors widened their eyes, unable to believe those words were coming from an Alpha who had once been a medical student
And yet, that man was my mate, with whom I had sealed the bond seven years ago.
Adam sneered and raised his foot to kick my stomach twice, hard.
“Laura, you’re crafty. Did you buy off all my pack doctors too? Omega she–wolves are so ruthless. To compete for my favor, you go this far. I should never have listened to Grandma and made you my Luna.”
At those words, I instinctively glanced over at Carla, who was lying on the hospital bed.
As expected, she looked triumphant.
In fact, the moment the troublemaker had lunged at me with the knife, Carla had lowered her voice to say:
“Laura, do you dare bet? Adam only has room for me in his heart. Even if you die in front of him, he won’t be swayed.”
It was clear Adam had fallen for Carla’s lies
John couldn’t bear to hear any more and was about to say something in my defense, but I shook my head to stop him.
Chapter 1
“Forget it. Save her.”
I clutched my aching stomach, trying to stand up and leave. As I lifted my foot, the pain hit so hard that I collapsed to my knees again. Gritting my teeth, I turned sideways and crawled slowly out of the ICU.
Behind me stretched a long, winding trail of blood.
Adam watched me with cold indifference, “Laura, stop the act. Go home, change into clean clothes, and then come back to apologize to Carla. She was hurt because of your nonsense.”
If this had happened before, I would have fought to defend myself if he blindly trusted Carla over me.
But not this time.
Exhausted, I collapsed at the door of the ward. When I looked back, I saw Adam and Carla holding hands, their fingers tightly entwined.
I took off my wedding ring and threw it into the trash.
