Like our other colleagues, I congratulated him and Chloe on their engagement. Then I deleted all his contact information from my life.
When the plane landed, my parents were waiting for me at the airport.
My mother grabbed my hands, her face filled with concern. “My sweet girl, you’ve been so far from home all these years–look how thin you’ve become!”
My father patted my shoulder, simply saying, “It’s good to have you back.”
Standing beside them was a tall, broad–shouldered man with a slim waist, impeccably dressed in a three–piece suit. His deep, gentle eyes watched me with quiet interest, a subtle smile on his face.
His gaze was intense enough to make me blush, as I’d already guessed who he must be.
My parents quickly made the introduction: “Darling, this is Alexander.”
I extended my hand and Alexander took it, his large palm gently cradling my fingertips.
“Welcome home, fiancée,” he said with a warm smile that made my face burn even redder.
My parents beamed at us, nudging me closer to him.
Alexander took my suitcase, immediately noticing the burn on my wrist.
“What happened here?” he asked, concern in his voice.
Not wanting to relive the humiliating break room incident, I simply said it was an accidental burn.
Something flickered in Alexander’s eyes before he gently touched my head. “From now on, you’re going to be my wife. You’ll need to get used to me taking care of you.”
‘Okay,” I replied softly, somewhat overwhelmed by his tenderness.
Back at my parents‘ home, Alexander’s first priority was treating my injury–carefully draining the blisters, cleaning the wound, and applying soothing ointment.
I expressed my discomfort about jumping from one relationship straight into another. Alexander assured me he could wait, saying he only wanted to be my final choice.
After he left, my parents could tell something was troubling me.
