Chapter 7
But before the call could connect, the footsteps outside suddenly stopped. The room fell silent except for the busy tone beeping from the phone as I stared at the door. Just then, the locked door was suddenly struck with violent force. “Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Russell was clearly trying to break down the door. I had no idea how strong he was, but after just two or three hits, the door was already dented inward. Terrified, I rushed into the bedroom and hid in the closet, not daring to make a sound. Almost immediately, there was a tremendous crash from outside—the door had been broken open. I pressed my hand tightly over my mouth as Russell’s footsteps echoed through the room. Soon, he entered the bedroom. Through the gap, I could see that blood–stained hammer swaying before my eyes. I was too scared to even breathe deeply.
Fortunately, after searching the room thoroughly, Russell found no trace of me and prepared to leave. But just then, the emergency call I had made earlier suddenly rang back. “Hello, how can I help you?”
That faint voice immediately caught Russell’s attention outside, and he walked toward the closet. I quickly begged for mercy: “Please don’t kill me, don’t kill me!”
Russell dragged me out, completely unmoved by my pleas. He was like a cold machine, expressionlessly pinning me down on
the bed and raising the iron hammer in his hand. Despair washed over me like a tide, and I felt as if I could already sense the excruciating pain of my skull being crushed. As the hammer came down, I let out a heart–wrenching scream: “Ah! Don’t kill
me!”
Suddenly, a voice said: “Hey, you’re not dead yet.”
Unexpectedly, before my head could be split open, Russell collapsed first. The person who saved me was Anton—I never expected him to appear so suddenly. He said to me: “I was worried about you. Ever since you mentioned this to me, couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I followed you to check.”

Whatever his reason was, he had saved me at the crucial moment. I hugged him tightly, tears streaming down uncontrollably, unwilling to let go. He also comforted me softly: “You must be terrified. It’s okay, I’m here. Let’s get out of here first–this place is too dangerous.”
I nodded and took his hand, ready to leave. But then, Anton suddenly pulled out a rope from behind and viciously strangled me from behind. I tried to struggle, but Anton was too strong- I couldn’t break free at all. I looked at him in disbelief: “You…
you…”
Anton sneered: “You didn’t actually think I came to save you, did you? Ha ha, you really are a stupid woman.”
His expression had completely changed, like that of a victor with
a triumphant smile on his face. He said: “This guy is just like
you-
—a big problem if not eliminated. Come to think of it, I should thank you. If you hadn’t lured him out, I really wouldn’t have been able to find him.”
