Quentin broke down and grabbed Samuel by the collar, shouting, “If Isadora wasn’t sleeping with you, how could she possibly get into Professor Landon’s lab?”
Samuel snapped back, “Enough! Isadora’s talent surpasses everyone in that lab–she didn’t need to take shortcuts! You should be asking how Elaine stole Isadora’s research and published it as her own!”
“There’s no way Elaine would steal Isadora’s work! Don’t you dare make such accusations!” When Quentin said this, his voice clearly lacked conviction.
If Elaine truly had exceptional talent, why had she only published one paper in four years?
Quentin wasn’t stupid. He’d suspected Elaine for a while, but he couldn’t bring himself to believe that someone he’d grown up with would commit plagiarism.
Samuel fired back, “Then look at which professors in the entire industry dare to take Elaine on now!”
Quentin’s clenched fist loosened as he remembered Elaine being rejected time after time. Even with massive donations, no lab would accept her. He closed his eyes and finally left in dejection.
Andreas, though, cornered Samuel, his eyes bloodshot as he asked through gritted teeth, “If you and Isadora have nothing going on, why would you help her buy emergency contraceptives?”
Two years ago, he’d seen Samuel enter a pharmacy with his own eyes and then hand the medication to me. He hadn’t confronted me about it, but only sent me a message. “Remember your place as Mrs. Fitzgerald.”
